Summary

  • Bernhardt & Vella’s “No More Private” marks the studio’s first private furniture collection
  • Debuted during Milan Design Week, the initial pieces include a coffee table and two armchairs
  • The designs emphasize intuitive, natural forms meant to integrate into lived spaces

Ellen Bernhardt and Paola Vella, the dynamic duo behind Bernhardt & Vella, have always considered design as more than just a job – it’s a form of communication, a lifestyle, and an ongoing conversation. After over a decade of working with top Italian manufacturing brands, they’ve honed their production methods. While adhering to commercial structures has sharpened their abilities, they yearned for a more intimate and authentic creative outlet. Their latest venture, “No More Private,” is their inaugural private furniture collection, intended to harmoniously blend into homes rather than follow passing fads.

At Milan Design Week 2025, the installation titled “No More Private” was unveiled, originating from Bernhardt & Vella’s home-studio located on Via Popoli Uniti in Milan. The 150-square-meter space doubles as a residence and creative workshop, having undergone renovation that maintains its original structure while subtly altering the entrance. Inside this multi-layered interior, “No More Private” is not merely furniture, but represents intuitive and organic design. The initial three creations – a coffee table and two armchairs – embody this philosophy.

The ROCK STEADY coffee table showcases a robust travertine foundation alongside a sleek, featherweight steel structure, resulting in an intriguing interplay of angles and reflections. Meanwhile, the SOFT BLOCK armchair, inspired by a cube, metamorphoses through subtraction into a cozy yet structured seating area, striking a harmonious balance between minimalist design and ergonomic comfort.

Similarly, the ONE PLUS armchair embraces geometric simplicity, featuring a two-tone, striped-like design that enhances visual dimension. Its body is upholstered in soft mohair, adding a tactile element to its structured form. Each piece in the collection is designed to adapt, transform, and integrate effortlessly into diverse interiors, reinforcing the idea that No More Private is not just furniture — it’s a philosophy of living with design.
