Bergerac star reveals John Nettles’ reaction to rebooted series
Damien Molony from Bergerac has revealed that John Nettles, the original star, was affirmative towards the remake of the series, expressing his approval for the new adaptation.
The television program UKTV is a remake of the BBC series that originally ran from 1981 to 1991. In this new version, Molony assumes the character of the conflicted detective, who moves to Jersey to tackle mysteries while grappling with his internal struggles.
Prior to the airing of the show on February 27th, Molony disclosed to Metro that he had screened the reboot’s debut episode for Nettles. During their encounter, the original actor expressed a heartwarming sentiment.
Last week, I had lunch with Nettles, and he was simply delightful, as Molony recounted, who has appeared in both Brassic and The Split. He also shared complimentary words about the initial episode.
He concluded our meal by expressing, ‘Bergerac has been extraordinarily beneficial to me and my profession, and I sincerely wish it brings the same success for you.’ I found this sentiment heartwarming, underscoring what a kind individual he truly is.
Molony, alongside Zoë Wanamaker and Philip Glenister, revealed he had minimal reservations about playing the part, even though he greatly respected Nettles. He attributed this confidence to the encouragement he received from fans, which effectively alleviated any lingering uncertainties.
He stated that he wasn’t anxious since he was so thrilled about working on it instead,” he explained. “I adored the character from the audition tapes. As we approached filming, though, I felt a bit nervous – thinking, ‘I hope I don’t botch this opportunity.’
Those who have enjoyed the series ‘Bergerac’ hold fond and joyful memories of it, which is why they were genuinely thrilled when I got to portray such an incredible character. It feels exhilarating to be riding this wave – a sensation that completely eliminates any sense of pressure or intimidation.
Bergerac will premiere on U&Drama on February 27.
