Benjamin Bratt Reveals His Bold Pitch to Have Bail Organa Appear Earlier in Andor Season 2
In the television series Star Wars: Andor, role recasting has occurred occasionally, as demonstrated by the recent finale of Season 2 that wrapped up on the 2025 TV schedule not long ago. The sixth episode, named “What a Festive Evening,” introduced Bail Organa into the storyline, but instead of Jimmy Smits reprising the role, Benjamin Bratt took over the character portrayal. Interestingly, it was Bratt who suggested having Bail appear earlier in Andor, which would have made for an exciting addition to the show had it been executed.
In an interview with EW, Benjamin Bratt revealed that Tony Gilroy, the creator of Andor, referred to his eagerness as he joined the cast. Bratt concurred, stating that after forming friendships with Alistair Petrie (possibly Alistair Petrie) and Genevieve O’Reilly (who plays Mon Mothma), he proposed the inclusion of Bail Organa during the wedding sequence in “Harvest.” However, this was problematic because the scene was scheduled to be filmed last, as Bratt explained.
You suggested, “You’ve cleverly hidden something for Bail in episode 6, and we’ve already filmed it – it works really well. But could we still consider the possibility? I have a deep, long-standing friendship with Senator Mon, don’t I? So, wouldn’t it be plausible that I would attend the wedding, bearing a gift?” He replied, “I appreciate your excitement, but the idea is quite costly. It’s too late for such an addition.

‘The Andor Showrunner Discusses Departing from Star Wars Rebels: The Significance of the Major Mon Mothma Scene
In a recent interview, the showrunner for the hit Disney+ series ‘Andor’ explained why they chose to deviate from the storyline of ‘Star Wars Rebels’ by incorporating a significant scene featuring Mon Mothma. The showrunner emphasized that while ‘Andor’ is set in the same universe as ‘Rebels’, it aims to provide a fresh perspective on the Star Wars saga, focusing on the origins and motivations behind key figures like Mon Mothma. This shift allows fans to delve deeper into the Rebellion’s early days and appreciate the transformative journey of these characters before they become the heroes we know from the original trilogy.
During the wedding reception of Leida Mothma and Stekan Sculdun, there were numerous events taking place, such as Mon’s intoxicated dance routine and Luthen Rael determining that Tay Kola should be eliminated. Despite their close relationship, it seems plausible that Bail Organa, as suggested by Benjamin Bratt, would have attended this significant event, even with his Alderaan senatorial duties demanding much of his time. After all, wouldn’t he have found a way to be there, given the occasion?
Unfortunately, due to budgetary constraints and scheduling conflicts, it proved impossible to incorporate Bratt into “Andor” Season 2’s third episode. Given Tony Gilroy’s position, this predicament is understandable, as it required finding a suitable time for filming with Bratt, reworking his contract for the Star Wars series, and modifying the “Harvest” script to accommodate Bail Organa. Consequently, either Bail was genuinely preoccupied and couldn’t attend the wedding, or we can envision him being there unseen on screen.
