Benedict Cumberbatch’s “haunting” new movie confirms UK release
Benedict Cumberbatch’s drama The Thing With Feathers has landed a UK release window.
This year at the Sundance Film Festival, the debut film directed by Dylan Southern is set to be released in UK cinemas towards the end of the year, according to Screen Daily.
The film is a cinematic interpretation of Max Porter’s 2015 novella titled “Grief Has Feathers,” where Benedict Cumberbatch plays the part of a grieving father of two, whose wife unexpectedly passes away.

The film “The Thing With Feathers” has been met with a variety of opinions and holds a critic’s rating of 53% on the aggregation platform, Rotten Tomatoes.
The deadline critiqued the film upon its premiere at Sundance, labeling it as a chilling narrative that seamlessly blends elements of “dramatic societal issues” with intensified “horror.
Praise for Cumberbatch’s acting is plentiful in positive reviews, but critics who weren’t as impressed often noted the movie’s somber mood and a predictable pattern where sorrow leads to wickedness.
Or even more casually: Positive feedback mostly focuses on Benedict Cumberbatch’s great performance. Critics, however, pointed out that the film could be too emotionally muted and it followed a familiar narrative arc where sadness turns into villainy.
In the upcoming cinematic adventure, I’ll be teaming up with Olivia Colman on the silver screen for a fresh take on “The War of the Roses.” This exciting project is directed by the talented Jay Roach and written by Tony McNamara. Can’t wait to dive in!
Similar to the initial film trailer for “The Roses“, which was recently unveiled, is inspired by Warren Adler’s 1981 novel with the same title and revolves around a pair whose once harmonious union begins to deteriorate.
In the video, we see a deterioration of their relationship as husband and wife develop growing animosity towards one another. The movie portrays their escalating legal battles during an acrimonious divorce process.
In addition to Colman and Cumberbatch playing Ivy and Theo, the film features Ncuti Gatwa from Doctor Who, Sunita Mani known for GLOW, Andy Samberg of Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Jamie Demetriou starring in Stath Lets Flats, alongside Allison Janney, Kate McKinnon, Zoë Chao and Belinda Bromilow.
Or, more succinctly:
The cast includes Colman, Cumberbatch, Ncuti Gatwa (Doctor Who), Sunita Mani (GLOW), Andy Samberg (Brooklyn Nine-Nine), Jamie Demetriou (Stath Lets Flats), Allison Janney, Kate McKinnon, Zoë Chao, and Belinda Bromilow.
Both versions convey the same information in a clear and easy-to-read manner.
The Thing With Feathers will be released in UK cinemas later this year.
The Roses releases on 29 August in the US and on 1 September in the UK.
The inaugural print edition of Digital Spy’s magazine has arrived! You can grab the British Comedy Legends issue from your local newsstand or purchase it online for £7.99 right now.
