Ben Stiller and Christine Taylor separated in 2017 after 17 years as a married couple. They rekindled their relationship while living together during the COVID-19 pandemic. Stiller has shared that reconnecting with his wife wasn’t just due to the pandemic, but also from collaborating on a documentary about his parents‘ marriage.
When Taylor and Stiller reunited during the pandemic, being stuck at home with their teenage children actually gave them a chance to connect and talk without interruptions. Stiller also told E! News at the premiere of his documentary, *Stiller & Meara: Nothing is Lost*, that making the film about his parents played a big role in bringing them closer together again.
The most important thing is simply wanting to be with each other and being willing to put in the effort. It really comes down to being committed to and appreciating the relationship.
The actor from *Night at the Museum* makes a great point. It’s common for couples to drift apart, but rebuilding a connection takes work from both sides. Both partners need to be committed to resolving issues if they want their marriage to last.
Although Ben Stiller’s TV show pilot, *Heat Vision and Jack*, wasn’t successful, it’s how he met his wife, Christine Taylor. The couple married in 2000 and have two children together. Taylor also appeared in some of Stiller’s most popular films, including *Zoolander*, *Tropic Thunder*, and *Dodgeball*. However, when discussing their 2017 separation on *The Drew Barrymore Show*, Taylor explained that she and Stiller had simply begun to want different things in life and were growing apart.
I was so moved by Ben Stiller’s documentary, *Stiller & Meara*. Seeing him explore his parents’ life and career – and especially their incredible 60-year marriage – felt really personal. It’s beautiful how piecing together those old recordings, both on and off stage, helped him understand his own life. It made me believe that through it all, he truly grasped what it means to support someone, even when things get tough, just like Jerry and Anne did for each other.
Although Ben Stiller and his wife separated for a few years, they remained connected. Stiller shared with E! News how thankful he was that they both wanted to repair their marriage.
I’m so grateful we were both able to recognize how much we valued our relationship and were committed to making it last.
Ben Stiller and Christine Taylor’s decision to stay together really shows how much they care for each other. Like many couples, the pandemic and resulting quarantine brought them closer, allowing them to reconnect and spend valuable time with family during a challenging period.
I was really struck by how personal Ben Stiller’s documentary felt. It wasn’t just about his parents navigating their careers and relationship; you could feel the film was also *him* working through things with Christine Taylor. It’s one of those lovely instances where making a film about someone else’s love story actually becomes a way to strengthen your own. It felt incredibly full circle, like he was using his parents’ example to reconnect and heal, and honestly, it was really touching to watch.
You can see the new movie *Stiller & Meara: Nothing is Lost* in select theaters starting October 17th. It will then be available to stream on Apple TV+ beginning October 24th.
