Ben Stiller Reveals Emotional Secret Behind Rekindling Marriage With Christine Taylor
During the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, three years following their separation, Ben Stiller chose to reconcile with Christine Taylor, finding inspiration in his parents’ relationship as a source of motivation.
Even though Jerry Stiller and Anne Meara, his parents, often disagreed throughout their 60-year union, the actor shared that their unwavering devotion to each other motivated him to remain optimistic about the prospects of reconciliation.
Similar to Ben and Taylor, who have collaborated on numerous productions, Stiller’s parents, who first crossed paths at a casting agency, formed a comedic duo as a married couple, often gracing the screens of television variety shows together.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, I shared how my father was deeply invested in transforming our bond into a profitable comedy act. However, my mother wasn’t quite as enthusiastic about this venture. Despite her reservations, she had a knack for it, which, unsurprisingly, played a significant role in the dynamics of their relationship.
In the end, Ben realized that he was replicating certain patterns from his parents’ relationship, where his career was influencing his marriage negatively.
‘You start making movies, and if they don’t go well, that would affect me,’ he said.
Following their separation after 17 years of marriage in 2017, Stiller indicated that he didn’t foresee a reconciliation between them.
In the aftermath of our split, a piece of me hesitated to let go so easily. I suspect some of that reluctance stemmed from witnessing my parents’ relationship. You see, I deeply cherish Christine, my family, and I wasn’t prepared to simply walk away, saying, “That’s it, I’m done.
During their time apart, Ben and Taylor never never formally filed for divorce.
In my expertise, I can share that my parents, who tied the knot in 1954, remained together until my mother’s passing in 2015. Regrettably, my father followed her five years later in 2020.
Although, at times, he still has to be ‘pulled from’ work, Ben insists he is more balanced now.
As a devoted admirer, I too cherish our times spent making memories with my loved ones, including the remarkable Christine. Therefore, it brings me immense joy to have ensured I didn’t forfeit these precious moments of shared fun and laughter.
Recently, Ben stated on The View last month that every day he spends with his wife is not taken for granted.)
He explained that they somehow managed to reignite their relationship, but all he could say was that they both desired it. During the pandemic, they moved in together for the well-being of their two kids, Ella, 22, and Quinlin, 19.
He went on to gush: ‘Now, every day that we’re together, we do not take for granted.’
Ben said, “I’m certain I don’t possess what might vanish, but that’s a blessing in our relationship, since it reminds us daily of its transient nature. And I’m genuinely overjoyed that we’re sharing this journey together.
Still, he says you ‘have to work at it’ to keep your marriage strong.
He expressed to the crowd that he doesn’t have much advice on relationships except for his personal experience – he’s thankful that they are back together now, and while he acknowledges that getting back together isn’t always the best choice for everyone, it was the right decision for them.
During an interview with The New York Times, Stiller shared that the period of separation actually benefited their relationship.
He explained, “Taking some time apart allowed me to understand the dynamics of our relationship, experience what life felt like without it, and appreciate the depth of my love for our family. It seemed as though we hadn’t been together for three or four years, yet we remained connected on a deeper level. In truth, I never wanted us to be apart.
The director mentioned that they weren’t aware of Christine’s location, as it would be best to inquire from her directly. However, the pandemic had led everyone to stay in the same household.
It was ‘almost a year of living in the same house before we were actually together’ again.
The arrangement worked well for both of the stars, and the two began to reconcile.
He told Esquire in 2022: ‘We were separated and got back together and we’re happy about that.’
It has been incredibly pleasant for everyone involved, quite unexpectedly, as something that emerged from the pandemic experience.
Later on, Stiller compared his evolving perspective on marriage to the experience of learning to ride a horse – a metaphor he used to illustrate this transformation he’s undergone in recent years.
He shared that a while back, he discovered he wasn’t fond of horseback riding. Typically, if there’s an occasion for horseback riding, he likely won’t participate. However, now he adores horses! He finds them stunningly beautiful. What he enjoys the most is petting them instead.
I enjoy observing others on horseback, and I especially delight in seeing my children ride. However, I personally don’t fancy the experience of riding horses myself. By making this clear, it helps conserve energy.
In essence, I believe we admire both our shared traits and unique differences. By acknowledging these aspects, we tend to value others more since we stop attempting to make them conform to our preferences. This acceptance frees up a considerable amount of energy.
‘”What I find effective is this; what I don’t find effective is that. If you understand our communication, my expressing ‘I dislike this action’ doesn’t imply ‘I dislike you.'”‘
In 2017, they parted ways after being married for 17 years. At that point, they issued a statement expressing their intention to stay on friendly terms.
In a deep bond of affection and regard for one another, spanning eighteen years as a pair, we’ve chosen to part ways, they announced earlier.
‘We’ll always strive to nurture our kids as both loving parents and cherished companions. We appreciate your understanding for maintaining our personal space during this period.’
In 1999, they crossed paths during the production of a TV pilot called “Heat Vision and Jack.” The next year, they tied the knot.
In my cinematic journey, I’ve had the privilege of sharing the screen with some incredible talents in more than one film. Among these collaborations are Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story, Zoolander, and Tropic Thunder.
