Ben Stiller and Robert De Niro reuniting for sequel to classic ’00s comedy
As a gamer who’s had his fair share of highs and lows (and let’s not forget those infamous Game Over screens), I must say that the news of a new “Meet the Parents” sequel has me feeling like I just scored a critical hit in my favorite RPG. The original trilogy was a rollercoaster ride of laughter and tension, much like navigating through the labyrinthine dungeons of a fantasy world.
Actor Ben Stiller will team up again with Robert De Niro for another installment of the beloved ’00s comedy “Meet the Parents.
According to Deadline, there are preliminary discussions underway for Ben Stiller, Robert De Niro, along with original cast members Teri Polo and Blythe Danner, to reprise their roles for a potential fourth installment in the “Meet the Parents” movie series.
At Universal Pictures, it’s rumored that a movie is currently being worked on, and details about its storyline are being tightly guarded.
It’s confirmed that John Hamburg, who was involved in writing all the previous “Meet the Parents” movies, will pen the script this time. At present, there’s no information available about who might be directing the film.
Jane Rosenthal, together with Robert De Niro, will co-produce through Tribeca Productions, in collaboration with Jay Roach, who previously directed the first two movies, via Delirious Media.
Stiller and John Lesher will also produce through their Red Hour Films.
Meet the Parents was released in 2000, becoming a huge hit and earning $330 million worldwide.
In this scenario, Stiller played the role of Greg Focker, a kind-hearted gentleman making his initial visit to his girlfriend’s parents. De Niro took on the character of Jack, Pam’s protective and retired CIA agent father.
2004 saw the release of the follow-up movie titled “Meet the Fockers“, starring Dustin Hoffman and Barbra Streisand as Greg’s parents. The film proved to be another commercial success, earning a staggering $522 million globally at the box office.
In 2010, the sequel to “Meet the Fockers,” titled “Little Fockers,” arrived on screens, expanding its cast to include Jessica Alba, Laura Dern, Kevin Hart, and Harvey Keitel.
In 2018, Stiller and De Niro had a Meet the Parents reunion on Saturday Night Live.
In this new version, they reenacted the well-known lie detector scene from the initial film, but this time, it had a political twist.
In this scenario, Stiller portrayed Michael Cohen, who was previously President Donald Trump’s lawyer, while De Niro took on the role of Robert Mueller, a former FBI director.
