Ben Guide – Best Builds

As a seasoned gamer with countless hours spent in the realm of Zenless, I can confidently say that Ben, the stoic fire-wielder, is a character that may not initially grab the spotlight but certainly holds a unique place in any team composition. With his slow speed and attack rate, one might be tempted to underestimate him, but oh, how wrong they’d be!

In Zenless Zone Zero, Ben is a top-tier Defense Agent of rank A. He primarily inflicts fire-type anomaly damage. This towering character moves at a deliberate pace, but given his role as a defensive unit, he excels in creating shields and counterattacking to induce daze effects. Not only does Ben protect his team by lessening the impact of incoming attacks on them with his shield, but those under his protection also gain an enhanced chance for critical hits through his additional skillset.

Overview

Ben Guide – Best Builds

Available on the standard banner and given as a free single copy after progressing in the story, Ben, the head of finance at Belobog Heavy Industries, is a defense unit that provides shields and buffs to the team. He has very slow movement and attack speed, but makes up in his ability to act as a daze unit thanks to his strong parry capability. Not only can he provide damage mitigation with his shield, but also provide a valuable crit rate buff with his shields, making him a solid option not only for applying daze to enemies, but also as a support agent. Below, you will find the best Defense builds for Ben, including the best W-Engines, Disc Drives, Stats, Skills, Bangboo, and Teams!

W-Engines

A – Spring Embrace

⭐ ATK

  • Reduces DMG taken 7.5/8.5/9.5/10.5/12%. When attacked, the equipper’s Energy Generation Rate increased by 10/11.5/13/14.5/16% for 12s. When the equipper switches off-field, this buff will be transferred to the new on-field character with its duration refreshed. Passive effects of the same name do not stack.
  • This W-Engine will make Ben a greater supportive unit, giving his team an additional buff apart from just shielding and providing crit rate increase. This is more suited for a support defense build.

A – Original Transmorpher

⭐ HP

  • Increases Max HP by 8/9/10/11/12.5%. When attacked, the equipper’s Impact is increased by 10/11.5/13/14.5/16% for 12s.
  • As Ben already deals a great amount of daze with his parry attacks, this will further increase his impact, thus further enhancing his ability to stun enemies after being attacked. This is more suited for a stun defense build

  • Reduces DMG taken by 7.5/8.5/9.5/10.5/12%. After being attacked, the next attack to hit an enemy will trigger a critical hit and deal 600/690/780/870/960% of the equipper’s DEF as additional DMG. This effect can be triggered once every 7.5s.
  • This is Ben’s signature W-Engine, and will increase his damage output by a considerable amount considering that you could build pure crit damage and ignore critical hit chance just to take advantage of this W-Engine. This is more suited for a damage defense build.

Disc Drives + Stats

Option 1 – “Guardian Grizzly

(2) Energy Regen increases by 20%.

As a gamer, I’d put it like this: “Unleashing a Chain Attack or Ultimate Skill boosts my squad’s damage by 15% for a solid twelve seconds. However, only the first instance of these abilities applies the damage increase; subsequent uses during that timeframe won’t stack up the effect.”

2 Piece Soul Rock

(2) Increases DEF by 16%.

Main Stats: IV. DEF | V. DEF | VI. Energy Regen or Impact

Sub stats in order of priority:

1.  DEF% | 2. Crit Rate or Crit Damage | 3. Flat Def

In this construct, Ben’s role is primarily supportive as a tank, emphasizing shielding and buffing abilities. With enhanced energy regeneration, he will be capable of offering more shields using his EX Special move, and boosting attacks when performing a chain attack. Additionally, the increased defense strengthens the durability of these shields. For added effect, consider selecting Impact for the VI piece to amplify the stun he inflicts with his EX Special parry.

Option 2 – “Bear Bash!

4 Piece Shockstar Disco

(2) Increases Impact by 6%.

(2) Energy Regen increases by 20%.

Main Stats: IV. Def | V. Def | VI. Energy Regen or Impact

Sub stats in order of priority:

1.  Def% | 2. Crit Rate or Crit Damage | 3. Flat Def

As a gamer, I’d say this build is tailored for me, focusing on enhancing my role as a stunner character, Ben. It boosts my ability to daze enemies not only during parries but also with basic attacks, dashes, and dodges.

Skill Priority

ALWAYS PRIOIRITZE CORE SKILL FIRST!!!

Ben Guide – Best Builds

1. Prioritizing Ben’s unique ability is crucial since it serves multiple purposes: firstly, it gets utilized frequently for creating shields; secondly, it enhances the damage and disorientation effects across all its versions.

1. When playing with Swing Electro, you’ll find yourself relying heavily on Ben’s chain attack. Even if you’re not using Swing Electro, Ben’s chain attack is strong and tends to be used more frequently than the following abilities.

Ben Guide – Best Builds

As a seasoned gamer with years of experience under my belt, I’ve come to appreciate the tactical depth that comes with mastering different combat moves in games. In my personal gaming journey, I’ve found that the ‘Ben’ attack, often overlooked in favor of basic and dodge attacks, proves to be a game-changer, especially in intense combats.

4. Due to Ben’s slower speed and limited offensive abilities, he won’t spend much time actively playing the field. When he’s in play, it’s mostly advisable to use his EX Special move.

5. Just like a standard move, since Ben rarely plays, his dodge might seldom or never be utilized, so prioritize other moves instead.

Bangboo

S – Rocketboo

Characteristic Feature: If you have two or more characters with the Fire Attribute in your team, the Bangboo Chain Attack will cause a 100% increase in Anomaly Buildup.

For Fire centric teams, this will make it much easier to apply Burn, making team builds that rely on applying burn much easier to achieve. And since I argue that Ben and Koleda should always be together if you plan to use Ben, this is a very good Bangboo to have.

A – Cryboo

A Significant Feature: Boost the Anomaly Buildup by an additional 60% when you have at least two characters with the Fire Attribute in your team, using the Bangboo Chain Attack.

A weaker version of Rocketboo, but will still be incredibly valuable for Fire teams.

Optimal Team Comp

Ben Guide – Best Builds

In this four-member squad, Ben, Koleda, and Soldier 11 deliver optimal performance for extra abilities, while forming a potent alliance where Koleda and Ben complement each other. Specifically, Koleda gains stronger attacks when joined with Ben. When Ben’s Guardian Core Passive shield is activated, his critical hit rate boosts by 16%. This tandem makes stunning enemies simpler, and Soldier 11 exploits this by dishing out enhanced fire damage to stunned foes, resulting in a harmonious team dynamic.

Overall Thoughts

Although Ben appears low in our tier list, it doesn’t imply he lacks utility when skillfully constructed and integrated with the appropriate team composition. He can function as a stun character or a support character, making him adaptable for teams that require both roles but have limited slots available. His attack and movement speed are quite sluggish, so he shouldn’t be deployed as a frontline attacker. Instead, use him strategically by switching him in when he has sufficient energy to unleash his EX Special. This move not only sets up shields but also counters enemy attacks, causing significant daze damage and helping to stun your opponents.
