The recognition occurred when Mindy Kaling, a well-known actress and writer famed for her work on The Office and The Mindy Project, stepped onto the stage. While she was there to discuss her friendship with the Democratic presidential candidate Vice President Kamala Harris, she also paused to honor her home state of Massachusetts.

Ben Affleck frequently demonstrates his affection for Boston and is well-known for his fondness for Dunkin’ Donuts. He’s featured in numerous advertisements, one of which was a Super Bowl commercial earlier this year that included a musical performance and dance routine. Jennifer Lopez, along with Affleck’s close friend and frequent co-star Matt Damon, as well as football quarterback Tom Brandon, who is renowned for his time with Boston’s New England Patriots, also appeared in the advertisement.
The mention of Affleck at the DNC came just one day after Lopez officially filed for divorce from the actor. Affleck and Lopez first got together in the early 2000s, but ultimately announced the end of their relationship in January 2004, in part due to pressure from the public eye. In 2021, rumors of a rekindled romance began to surface and they were spotted together multiple times, making joint red carpet appearances. In 2022, the pair got engaged and subsequently married.
“Love is beautiful. Love is kind. And it turns out love is patient. Twenty years patient,” Lopez wrote in a newsletter for fans when she announced their wedding in Las Vegas in July 2022.
