Ben Affleck disclosed the strategy behind Matt Damon’s career choices, noting that he tends to make “prudent” or “shrewd” moves.
Their friendship dates back to their shared childhood in Boston, where they spent their youth side by side. They gained significant acclaim together when they were awarded the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay in 1998 for “Good Will Hunting.
Although Affleck has thrived as a director with hits like “Argo” and “Gone Baby Gone”, Damon has mainly focused on acting roles. Notably, he’s penned just three screenplays since their joint work in “Good Will Hunting”.
As a die-hard fan, I’ve always been in awe of Ben Affleck’s admiration for Matt Damon, especially when it comes to their professional journey. In an interview with GQ, Affleck confessed that he deeply respects Damon’s work ethic, revealing that his friend would meticulously select his next projects based on the director and creative team involved.
Matt made the insightful decision of focusing primarily on the director when considering whether to take on a film project, a move I learned from him later, which turned out to be quite astute, as shared by Affleck.
He’s had chances to star in films, but it wasn’t as if I was denying roles from directors like Martin Scorsese or Steven Spielberg. Our roles are determined by the opportunities we have, and we’re bound by those circumstances.
Actor Affleck, who recently expressed that directing was “extremely rewarding” for him, will soon collaborate with Damon again on the screen in the upcoming Netflix-distributed crime-thriller titled “RIP“, which was written and directed by Joe Carnahan.
Drawing upon real-life occurrences as its foundation, the movie “RIP” features Affleck and Damon portraying a duo of Miami police officers. Together with their team, they unearth a vast trove of cash. As word of the seizure spreads beyond their circle, the team becomes increasingly unsure about whom to rely on.
RIP is scheduled to be released on Netflix later this year.
