Ben Affleck Drives Drone, Takes Over as Star in ‘Animals’

On the set of his upcoming movie “Animals,” Ben Affleck was observed rehearsing drone flights, as he both stars in and directs this production.

On a Saturday, the 52-year-old actor, who has lately faced FBI interrogation over unauthorized drone usage, adopted his usual laid-back style in a blue shirt and jeans as he continued work on an upcoming production.

He was spotted transporting a fake prop figure over the Los Angeles River while conversing with crew members from the set.

At first, the renowned director was only set to work behind the camera, but due to significant alterations in the cast, he ended up taking on the leading role instead.

According to reports, Jennifer Lopez’s former spouse is now taking over the role in the upcoming Netflix movie, previously played by Matt Damon. This change occurred after the 54-year-old actor announced his departure earlier this month.

Fortunately, it was confirmed that Damon would continue to be a part of the iconic duo’s projects from behind the scenes, much to the delight of their fans.

In collaboration with Affleck, he is working on this project under their joint banner called Artists Equity. Alongside Dani Bernfeld, they are also involved in its production. The script for this project was written by Connor McIntyre and Billy Ray, who is known for his work on Captain Phillips.

It appears that scheduling issues may have been the reason Damon declined the role, as it’s speculated that his commitments to Christopher Nolan’s version of The Odyssey were more pressing at the time.

The production will commence in Los Angeles this coming April, marking a potential continuation of more impactful movies from the pair known for Good Will Hunting and Air.

Although specifics about the storyline of the movie “Animals” have mostly been shrouded in secrecy, it is known to center around a gripping tale of abduction.

To boost excitement for the eagerly awaited movie, it’s been revealed that Gillian Anderson, famous for her role on The X-Files, will be part of the cast.

Even though Damon has left, fans eager for the duo’s reunion won’t be kept waiting for too long.

Friends have been scheduled to appear together in the upcoming crime thriller “RIP,” which is due for release on Netflix this coming summer.

Yet, the actor swap in the movie “Animals” isn’t entirely unexpected given that the production encountered significant delays in September 2024, which originally planned for filming to wrap up at that time.

At that point in time, Affleck’s involvement with the movie The Accountant 2 conflicted with his ability to perform his production responsibilities efficiently.

According to Netflix, the original summary was: ‘When the son of an L.A. mayoral candidate named Milo Bradford (played by Damon) gets abducted, he and his spouse must swiftly figure out a way to gather the ransom money within a limited timeframe.’

Due to a large portion of their funds being allocated for their political campaign, they’ll need to reveal aspects of their life they initially wanted kept private, possibly engaging in activities they wouldn’t ordinarily disclose.

2026 looks promising for moviegoers, given that filming is set to commence in 2025, assuming everything goes according to plan.

Following the actor’s disclosure about the essential aspects of directing, as well as building trust, during a conversation with Variety in an interview setting.

In a statement to the media, he conveyed: “Actors need to grasp that you value them and possess the discernment to identify quality work, which you will utilize.

My intention was to create an environment where everyone feels at ease… The secret to leading effectively lies in recognizing those who excel in certain areas, leveraging their strengths, and empowering them to take the reins when they can perform tasks more proficiently than you.
