I just saw the new trailer for Netflix’s The Rip and it looks amazing! It’s being called a really intense crime thriller, and it’s got Ben Affleck and Matt Damon playing cops who stumble upon a ton of cash hidden in an abandoned building. I’m definitely adding this one to my watchlist!
So, I heard about this new movie coming to Netflix on January 16th. It’s based on a real story, which is cool, but it was actually supposed to come out last fall! It got pushed back, but I’m still excited to check it out when it finally drops.
The film also stars Steven Yeun, Teyana Taylor, Sasha Calle, Catalina Sandino Moreno, and Kyle Chandler, alongside Damon and Affleck.

I recently learned that Joe Carnahan, the director of The Rip, drew a lot of inspiration from a real-life experience. He shared that the story really came from what a friend of his went through – his friend was in charge of tactical narcotics for the Miami Dade police department, and it sounds like that informed a lot of the film!

When a team of Miami police officers finds millions of dollars hidden in an abandoned building, their unity starts to crumble. As word of the massive cash discovery spreads, they begin to doubt everyone around them – and struggle to figure out who they can actually trust.
Based on the exciting trailer, the movie appears to be a suspenseful thriller packed with twists, betrayals, and a constant sense of mistrust.
According to the trailer, the group finds millions of dollars hidden in buckets within the walls of a building. They then have to quickly figure out what to do with it.

The trailer begins with Matt Damon’s character explaining that while the job seems easy from a distance – just grab the money and hand it over – the reality is much more complicated.
Damon explained to Tudum that in Miami, cash counts happen right where the money is found, ensuring everyone is aware of the total amount. Because the money is almost certainly connected to dangerous cartel members who will likely try to reclaim it, those counting it are under pressure. They need to quickly figure out how to protect themselves and the location, as simply leaving isn’t an option.
Affleck wondered what happens when someone is strongly tempted to do something wrong. He explored what that feels like firsthand, and who you can rely on when facing such a challenge.
The Rip will release globally on Netflix on January 16, 2026.
The latest issue of Living Legends magazine is now available, and it’s a special tribute to Dolly Parton! You can find ‘Dolly at 80’ in shops that sell magazines or order it online for only £8.99.
