Ben Affleck and Matt Damon Are Tenth Cousins!

It’s surprising to learn that long-time friends and Hollywood celebrities, Ben Affleck and Matt Damon, are discovered to be kin, having a family connection that goes back to their childhood days.

Since the 1980s, a deep-rooted camaraderie between them has been in place. They first met as kids and became friends due to their shared passion for baseball and acting.

Ben, who is 52 years old, and Matt, aged 54, initially worked together as unacknowledged background actors in the 1989 film “Field of Dreams.” They later found success in the entertainment industry within Hollywood.

Their close friendship, affectionately referred to as a “bromance,” has endured through the years, having worked together on projects such as Good Will Hunting, The Last Duel, and Air. They’ve consistently lent support to one another in both their professional and personal journeys.

As per the New England Genealogical Society’s records, it is stated that Ben and Matt are tenth cousins who are separated by one generation (once removed).

Scholars at the given organization have uncovered proof that these two performers share a common ancestor: William Knowlton Jr., an English mason who emigrated to America during the 1630s.

Ben is also shockingly related to former US president Barack Obama and Princess Diana.

Instagram page @moviemagick shared the news that the actors are related and left people shocked. 

In the comments section, fans posted: ‘It can’t be that Affleck and Damon are relatives; AFFLECK AND DAMON – ARE THEY RELATED IN SOME WAY??’ or simply ‘Fans can’t believe Affleck and Damon are related; ARE AFFLECK AND DAMON FAMILIAR WITH EACH OTHER?’

It comes after Ben last month opened up about his longtime friendship with Matt.

However, despite expressing the beauty of his friendship with his colleague and business associate, he confessed a melancholic reality: Matt is one of his very few friends within the Hollywood circle.

Though he praised the wonderful bond he shares with his co-star and partner, he acknowledged a bitter truth – Matt is among the rare friends he has in the world of Hollywood.

He expressed gratitude to Business Insider at the SXSW premiere of The Accountant 2, stating that he was incredibly fortunate to have a friend like Matt, who attended to show his support for him.

Ben, who finds Hollywood’s fixation on cancel culture unsettling, appreciates that he has few connections within the industry and sees no need for them.

‘It’s a beautiful thing,’ he said, but added: ‘You know, I don’t have very many [friends].

‘We all don’t have that many close friends. Having a lot of friends isn’t necessary.’ Additionally, during the premiere, he shared an honest response to his son Samuel when asked about buying expensive sneakers worth $6K – he simply said “No way.

He also mentioned that while having a big group of friends can seem appealing, it’s not always the best situation. Instead, he emphasized the importance of having just a few, but high-quality friends.

Previously, Ben has expressed disapproval towards the lifestyle of Hollywood, and in a shared interview with his friend Matt last year, he discussed the phenomenon of cancel culture.

He mentioned to Deadline that it only takes one careless comment for him to face potential backlash or boycott, which could put his career at risk. Given he has a family to support, he’s understandably trying to make decisions that are most beneficial for him.

The best friends have also won an Oscar together for writing Good Will Hunting in 1998. 

Originally struggling actors, they had been using an account they opened jointly during high school many years ago as a means of mutual aid and support, as they shared with Business Insider in 2023.

Nowadays, Affleck and Damon also work together at their production company Artists Equity. 

Upcoming endeavors from dear friends feature the cinematic premiere of Ben Affleck’s The Accountant 2, scheduled for release on April 25.

In terms of Damon, he’ll spearhead an illustrious ensemble in director Christopher Nolan’s forthcoming blockbuster, “The Odyssey,” scheduled for release in the summer of 2026, specifically in July.

Together, they formed Artists Equity as a production company in 2022 and collaborated to produce the film The Accountant 2 under this joint venture.
