I’ve seen so many artists make amazing transitions, and this one really stands out. She first gained a following as the lead singer of a really cool indie band back in the late ’90s, and then, in the early 2000s, she really blossomed as a solo performer. It’s a testament to her talent and adaptability – going from band leader to a successful individual artist isn’t easy!
On Thursday, the 46-year-old singer posted a cute childhood photo on Instagram.
The singer is wearing blue satin pajamas and casually posing for the picture.
Oh my gosh, I almost didn’t recognize her! She looked absolutely stunning with this new short, black hairstyle, just lounging in her living room. It was such a natural, relaxed vibe, and she was breathtaking!
She wrote in the caption of her post that someone should let her know she’s likely to have another album reach the top 10 – this would be her sixth! She included a heart emoji with the message.

It’s none other than Sophie Ellis-Bextor!
The popular British singer first gained recognition as the lead singer of the indie band Theaudience before starting a solo career in the early 2000s.
She’s achieved significant success in the UK, with eight singles and five albums reaching the Top 10. This is due to her unique sound, which combines disco, pop, and electronic music.
Sophie achieved mainstream success in 2000 with the hit song “Groovejet (If This Ain’t Love),” a collaboration with Italian DJ Spiller. It became the best-selling vinyl single in the UK for that year, and remained so for a time, eventually earning the title of best-selling vinyl single of the millennium in 2015.
Sophie Ellis-Bextor’s first solo album, *Read My Lips*, came out in 2001 and reached number two on the UK album charts. It was a huge success, selling over 1.5 million copies around the world and earning a double platinum certification.
The album launched a series of successful songs, such as ‘Take Me Home,’ ‘Murder on the Dancefloor,’ and ‘Get Over You.’ ‘Murder on the Dancefloor’ especially became one of her most well-known tracks.
Her next album, *Shoot from the Hip* (released in 2003), climbed to number 19 on the charts and included the popular singles “Mixed Up World” and “I Won’t Change You,” both of which reached the Top 10.
Her 2007 album, Trip the Light Fantastic, reached number seven on the charts. In 2011, she released Make a Scene, which included the hit single “Bittersweet” that broke into the Top 40.

Sophie’s song ‘Murder on the Dancefloor’ became incredibly popular in 2023 after being used in a memorable scene at the end of the movie *Saltburn*, directed by Emerald Fennell.
Okay, so you will NOT believe what happened! Barry Keoghan, *Barry Keoghan*, was dancing completely naked to Sophie Ellis-Bextor’s ‘Murder on the Dancefloor’! It was the most incredible, surreal thing ever, and honestly, it’s sent that song – a total classic from 2001 – right back to the top of the charts! I haven’t stopped listening to it since, and neither has everyone else, apparently. It’s just… perfection.
The song quickly became popular, even reaching the Global Top 50 on Spotify with over 1.4 million streams in a single day.
Sophie expressed her surprise and gratitude for the positive response to her work, writing on X (formerly Twitter): ‘Wow…thank you for all the Murder love. Happy new year! Xx’
Starring Barry Keoghan, Jacob Elordi, Rosamund Pike, and Richard E. Grant, the film Saltburn first premiered at the Telluride Film Festival in August 2023 and was released in UK cinemas the following November.
The movie was highly praised and received nominations for two Golden Globes and five BAFTAs.
