Okay, superhero fans, get ready to speculate! A new rumor is swirling around Marvel’s upcoming Avengers: Doomsday film – it sounds like we might be seeing a familiar face return! As if that wasn’t exciting enough, mark your calendars: Doomsday is slated to hit theaters on December 18, 2026, and Marvel isn’t stopping there – Avengers: Secret Wars is already set for a December 17, 2027 release. It’s shaping up to be a massive couple of years for the MCU!

Who is potentially returning in Avengers: Doomsday?

According to a new report from industry insider James Mack on X, Benedict Wong will reprise his role as Wong in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday movie. The report suggests Wong will be tasked with preventing a collision between universes, showcasing the full extent of his magical abilities as the MCU’s Sorcerer Supreme.

When Doctor Strange vanished after Thanos’ snap, Wong stepped up and became the Sorcerer Supreme. He continued in this role even after Strange returned. Most recently, Wong appeared in the 2022 film Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and the She-Hulk: Attorney at Law series. There have also been reports suggesting he could lead a potential Strange Academy series for the studio, in addition to his role in Avengers: Doomsday.

Joe and Anthony Russo directed ‘Avengers: Doomsday,’ with a screenplay by Stephen McFeely. The film brings back familiar faces like Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom, Chris Hemsworth as Thor, and Chris Evans as Steve Rogers. Joining them is a large cast including Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, Paul Rudd, and many others like Sebastian Stan, Tom Hiddleston, Florence Pugh, and Letitia Wright.

The next Avengers movie will bring back familiar faces from the X-Men, including Patrick Stewart as Professor X, Ian McKellen as Magneto, Kelsey Grammer as Beast, Alan Cumming as Nightcrawler, Rebecca Romijn as Mystique, James Marsden as Cyclops, and Channing Tatum as Gambit. There’s also been talk that Doctor Strange, Deadpool, Peggy Carter, and Spider-Man could make an appearance in the film, currently known as ‘Doomsday’.
