Beloved Channel Seven presenter announces shock resignation amid network bloodbath – and reveals surprising new career move
As a longtime admirer of the Australian broadcasting industry, I can’t help but feel a sense of excitement and nostalgia reading about Liz Cantor and Sharyn Ghidella’s career moves. These two remarkable women have been staples on our screens for decades, and their transitions to Channel Ten are reminiscent of a classic soap opera plot twist!
Long-time weather reporter Liz Cantor, who has worked for Channel Seven for 17 years, revealed her decision to leave the station on Wednesday.
The popular television presenter, aged 41, announced unexpectedly in a press release that she was switching to competitor channel, Channel Ten.
Originally, Cantor stated, “I was a seven, now I’m a ten.” This means that his level of enthusiasm or satisfaction has increased significantly. In simpler terms, he used to be somewhat content, but now he is extremely happy.
It’s unexpected news that Liz will join forces with ex-Channel Seven reporter Sharyn Ghidella on 10 News First Queensland. Both of them departed from the network this year.
On Instagram, the soon-to-be newcomer, Cantor, expressed gratitude towards her previous coworkers while expressing eagerness about her upcoming job transition, which begins next week on Monday.
Accompanying a collection of cherished images showcasing my work at the network, Liz penned some sincere sentiments: ‘I’d like to seize this opportunity to express gratitude to my fellow team members at 7News.’
Over the last seventeen years, I’ve valued every friendship, moment, lesson, and personal development that we’ve shared through our journey together.
Among all, I consider myself truly fortunate to have been associated with an extraordinary group of diligent and inspiring individuals. It’s been a privilege to be a part of such an impactful phase in our collective lives.
The surprising announcement follows Sharyn Ghidella, aged 57, verifying her recent employment change, after her unexpected termination from Seven.
7News terminated the contract of their news presenter based in Queensland about a month ago, as part of a series of layoffs in the media industry that have been ongoing.
She later confirmed she will be joining Network 10 to anchor the 5pm Queensland news bulletin.
Moving forward, her shift to the network will mark the return of the 10 News First program to its Brisbane studios, a change that has been long-awaited since it started being broadcasted from Sydney for many years.
Sharyn considered her recent job change as a “coming full circle” experience, since she’s going back to Network 10, where she started her metropolitan news career way back in 1990.
10 News First’s current anchor, Sandra Sully, expressed her excitement as Sharyn steps into the role, indicating that she will be passing the torch to her.
At Seven, there’s been a significant wave of cost reduction due to restructuring within their news department, under the leadership of new management.
