Beloved Channel 10 Journalist Paul Mullins Passes Away at 79—A Legacy Remembered

Paul Mullins, who had been a journalist covering state politics for many years and worked as a reporter for Channel 10, passed away recently at the age of 79.

Mullins, commonly recognized as Mullos, was well-known within the New South Wales press corps and held in high esteem for his exceptional journalistic skills, earning him respect from politicians and peers alike.

Originating from Sydney, Mullins commenced his professional journey in the newspaper industry. Later, he transitioned to television and spent numerous decades serving as Channel 10’s NSW state government reporter until his retirement.

At one point, he engaged in a well-known dispute with the then-journalist Malcolm Turnbull, who later became Prime Minister, within the Newsroom (Press Gallery).

10 News First’s anchor, Sandra Sully, honored a renowned journalist whom she had collaborated extensively with, expressing her deep respect for his work and impact.

In the bustling newsroom, Paul was highly respected. He was an exceptional political analyst, well-versed in his field. His work was always meticulous, and he consistently demonstrated good moral character. That’s what she expressed about him.

Over the course of a few years, I had the great privilege of working closely with him. Upon my arrival in Sydney, he graciously mentored me, offering an abundance of his time and wisdom.

‘He was a lovely man. Vale Paul.’

He leaves behind his four sons, their four grandchildren, and his second spouse, Lisa. Additionally, he had another son who unfortunately did not survive.

More to come.
