Beloved BBC star quits show after five years – announcing plans to ‘go out with a bang’ in just weeks as they pay tribute to fans
As a seasoned broadcaster myself, I can truly appreciate the depth of experience and dedication that Lucy Meacock has brought to her profession over the years. With an impressive tenure spanning three and a half decades, she has undeniably left an indelible mark on the world of journalism.
As a devoted admirer, I’m sharing the news that a cherished BBC personality, who’s been gracing our screens for five years, has surprisingly decided to part ways with their show. They’ve hinted at an exciting departure, planning to make it a memorable one by ‘signing off with a big bang’.
On Friday, Elise Evans, aged 34, shared the news on her platform (previously known as Twitter), expressing gratitude to her followers for the cherished moments they’ve shared together. In response, numerous fans showered her with heartfelt support in the comments section.
In the upcoming weeks, she’ll broadcast her last program on Birmingham and Black Country radio. After this, she plans to embark on a fresh journey, marking her permanent departure from the station.
Reflecting on my journey, I shared in a recent post that it’s time for me to move on from the wonderful world of BBC WM. It’s been an unforgettable 5 years filled with ups and downs. I’ve had the pleasure of collaborating with some truly remarkable individuals and have gained experiences that will stay with me forever.
It’s time for fresh journeys! Our final performance is on the 25th of August, and we’re planning an explosive finale! Stay tuned for more details soon! In the meantime, thank you, Radio WM, for the cherished moments. x
She also shared some snaps of her favourite guests, including Niall Horan and Fleur East.
Many devoted listeners and colleagues from the station rushed to express their support and well wishes for the future in response comments, penning messages such as:
As a die-hard admirer of yours, I can’t express enough gratitude for your unending generosity towards all the folks I’ve had the pleasure of introducing to your work! Your support has never gone unnoticed and is always cherished. Excitedly anticipating what you’ll create next! Can’t wait until our paths cross again on the 25th – it’s going to be fantastic!
Over the past five years, I’ve had the privilege of witnessing your extraordinary accomplishments. There simply isn’t, nor ever will be, anyone quite like Elise.
Oh, I’m sorry to learn that. Those COVID-era breakfast shows we did together, with you and Sam on the news, and Liz and Matt in Operations, really brought a spark of joy during some incredibly tough times. I wish you all the very best for what’s ahead.
‘Wishing you all the best – hope you’re on to exciting new places.’
I’m truly sorry for the news. It’s been an absolute pleasure having you on CWR, as you’ve turned our weekend show into something extraordinary. I always look forward to your occasional appearances as well. Wishing you all the best and hoping that fantastic opportunities lie ahead for you! Best wishes, X
Oh dear, I’m truly sorry to see you go, but my heart is genuinely filled with joy for the exciting journeys ahead of you! You absolutely deserve every bit of success that comes your way. From day one when I first heard your voice on the airwaves, I’ve been hooked and will continue to follow your story closely.
‘Awwww! You’ll be missed for sure, but I can’t wait to hear what you’re next adventure is!’
Following the announcement by the ITV News legend, she was planning to leave the program after an impressive 36-year run on television.
Lucy Meacock, aged 64, expressed that she was “quietly stepping aside” following one of the most heart-wrenching weeks, alluding to the unfortunate Southport stabbings where three young girls tragically lost their lives.
In her post, she posted a deeply moving video showing families placing flowers at the site where the terrible tragedies occurred.
As a devoted follower of this craft, I’ve had the honor of being one of the primary female anchors for ITV’s regional news program, Granada Reports, since 1988. In November 2023, I will be celebrating an incredible milestone – my 35th year presenting the show at the age of 64.
Last month, it became official that the well-known news anchor chose to leave the North West program, following over three decades of service.
