The Wasp could be significantly changed in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, starting with the upcoming movie, Avengers: Doomsday.
So far, two characters have been Wasp in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The original Wasp, Janet van Dyne, was played by Michelle Pfeiffer and was a superhero and S.H.I.E.L.D. agent before she vanished in 1987. About 30 years later, in 2018’s Ant-Man and the Wasp, her daughter, Hope van Dyne (played by Evangeline Lilly), became the new Wasp.
Janet and Hope van Dyne last appeared in the movie Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania with both Ant-Men: Hank Pym (Michael Douglas) and Scott Lang (Paul Rudd). Since only Paul Rudd is confirmed to be in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday, fans have been speculating about what will happen to the other members of the Ant-Family in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
According to reliable sources, Marvel Studios doesn’t currently have plans for future storylines involving Hank Pym and Janet van Dyne. Additionally, a recent report suggests that the Wasp will die between films in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday. Both Michael Douglas and Evangeline Lilly have also stepped back from acting, with Douglas semi-retiring and Lilly choosing to focus on her family.
Avengers: Doomsday may introduce a new Wasp actor
According to a trusted source on X (formerly Twitter), Ana de Armas will play a younger version of the Wasp in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday movie. The source shared a picture of de Armas alongside an image of the Wasp from the animated series Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, suggesting she’ll portray a different version of Michelle Pfeiffer’s character. This would mark de Armas’s introduction to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Rumors have circulated since August 2025 that Ana de Armas might be joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). According to insider Daniel Richtman, Marvel was interested in casting her in a significant role, and the character of Wasp seemed like a good fit. This casting is a bit of a surprise, though, as earlier reports from The Beyond Reporter suggested de Armas was being considered to play the X-Men character Psylocke.
I’m so excited – we’ll finally get to see what happens in Avengers: Doomsday on December 18, 2026! It’s going to be a huge part of Phase 6 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and I can’t wait to see how it all unfolds.
