Bellator Champions Series salaries: Who made the most & the least in San Diego?
As a seasoned gamer of MMA fights, I’ve seen my fair share of highs and lows, victories and defeats, and now, it seems, I’ve added a new challenge to the list: deciphering the intricate web of fighter pay in this sport.
In recent times, it’s uncommon to find out the actual earnings from MMA fight events as most U.S. states have revised their rules regarding what is considered public knowledge. However, California stands as one of the exceptions, allowing disclosure of these figures, which we always appreciate for a glimpse into fighter compensation.
On September 7, Bellator MMA staged an event in San Diego featuring Usman Nurmagomedov retaining his lightweight title and Lorenz Larkin showcasing a spectacular victory over a rising contender. These two fighters were the highest-earning of the night, each receiving $100,000 for their performances.
Here’s one way of paraphrasing it: For those earning the least, such as Sean Rose, they only received $2,000 to participate in the fight. Unfortunately, he lost and didn’t receive a win bonus. Interestingly, Ashley Thiner, who was the lowest-paid winner, also received $2,000 for participation and another $2,000 as her winning prize. In contrast, her opponent walked away with a flat fee of $10,000. For a comprehensive look at all payouts, see the list below.

As a gamer, it’s striking to notice the significant difference in rewards for female competitors compared to their male counterparts, or even within matchups themselves. It’s hardly surprising that this discrepancy often keeps prize money details under wraps.
The upcoming Bellator fight night, slated for September 14 in London, features Leah McCourt and Sara Collins as the main event. Originally, the matchup was intended to be a rematch between Fabian Edwards and Johnny Eblen, but that bout has been postponed instead.
