Bel-Air welcomes OG Fresh Prince star back: Here’s who original Aunt Viv will be playing now

Janet Hubert, who originally played Aunt Viv on The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, will appear as a guest star in the final season of Peacock’s Bel-Air. Deadline reports that her character will interact with Hilary Banks (played by Coco Jones) and ultimately play a significant role in the Banks family’s story.

Hubert, known for his role in the original three seasons of The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, is the fifth original cast member to appear in the show’s reboot. He follows guest appearances by Daphne Maxwell Reid, Vernee Watson-Johnson, Tatyana Ali, and Joseph Marcell.

The fourth season of Bel-Air will begin streaming on Monday, November 24th, and will have eight episodes. The main cast, including Jabari Banks, Adrian Holmes, Cassandra Freeman, Olly Sholotan, Coco Jones, Akira Akbar, and Jimmy Akingbola, are all returning.

The show follows Will as he navigates the ups and downs of his final year of high school, trying to live in the moment while also meeting everyone’s expectations. Meanwhile, Carlton faces consequences from recent choices that could change his future, forcing him to prove his strength.

A change in power dynamics creates tension between Phil and Geoffrey, forcing them to question where their loyalty lies with the Banks family. Meanwhile, Viv grapples with finding her new identity and considers motherhood in a new light.

Although we don’t yet know exactly what her role will be, fans of the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air are excited to see Hubert back on screen. She left the show in 1993 after reports surfaced that she had been fired and was having disagreements with Will Smith.

Daphne Maxwell Reid, who appeared in shows like Simon & Simon and Frank’s Place, took over the role for seasons four through six.

During a 2020 reunion for HBO Max, Janet Hubert explained she left the show after turning down a low salary offer. She said she was told Will Smith was responsible for the decision to replace her rather than try to work out a new agreement, according to Variety.

Following a conversation with Smith, Hubert confirmed they’ve reconciled. During an appearance on The Big Tigger Show in September 2025, she described their current relationship as “really great” now that they’ve resolved their differences.

Season four of Bel-Air will premiere on Peacock on Monday, 24 November.
