Being a new player in LoL is harder now due to less free blue essence; Riot Meddler says the situation is being addressed
Playing a game with more than 160 characters may feel overwhelming at first. Securing these characters for play could be more challenging in the upcoming season compared to previous ones.
League of Legends (LoL) is packed with features, tactics, and a vast array of characters – a total of 169 characters. The latest addition, Ambessa, was introduced on Nov 6. With the start of the new season, there have been numerous updates, including a new pass and rewards system. However, some players are displeased on social media because the game is now providing less blue essence, which is used to unlock items, following the removal of Hextech chests and keys.
LoL Blue Essence: The “882 hours” discussion
The conversation about League of Legends (LoL) blue essence calculations kicked off a few days ago when a player posted on Reddit, expressing that in the current season, it would take approximately 882 hours or around 37 days to obtain a new champion without spending money. In contrast to the previous Battle Pass system where you received four random champion shards for every five levels reached, now you only receive 200 blue essence instead.
To provide a basic understanding for those unfamiliar with the game, it takes 7800 Blue Essence to purchase a newly released champion. You can acquire it at a reduced cost if you happen to get its Champion Shard, but that’s somewhat unpredictable. Here is a compiled list of all in-game champions arranged from least to most expensive price:
[List of Champions and Prices]
- 450 BE
- 1350 BE
- 3141 BE
- 4444 BE
- 4800 BE
- 6300 BE
- 7800 BE
Riot Games answers to fans’ concerns
As we know him as “BarackProbama,” the Senior Design Lead on Riot Games’ Motivations Team, expressed thoughts regarding this matter using simple calculations. He stated that an average player can earn approximately 28,500 blue essences annually, excluding rewards from new player missions. BarackProbama pointed out that for a newcomer to the game, it might be challenging to obtain both a collection of random champions or those with a specific preference, without spending money on them.
Meddler from Riot Games also addressed this issue on X (as well as other issues that arise with the new season). In a statement, the head of League Studio said: “It was not our intention for unlocking new champions to become more difficult. We are investigating whether there is something malfunctioning currently.
This statement implies that the issue concerning League of Legends (LoL) and Blue Essence has not yet been resolved, as the Riot Games team is still analyzing the problem and assessing its effect on the community of novice players.
