Just before her 12th album came out, Taylor Swift received a thank-you message from the estate of George Michael. They were thanking her for featuring his song in her recording of “Father Figure.”

He explained that he believes people generally go through a common life stage: they become independent from their parents, experience a period of self-reliance, and then seek a significant relationship to fill that space. He added this observation to the conversation.
