Before Man of Tomorrow, DC Gave Us The Perfect Brainiac Last Year

So, the buzz is getting louder about Brainiac being the big bad in the 2027 Superman movie, which is exciting! It got me thinking – we actually already know an actor who would be perfect for the role. He played Brainiac really recently, just last year, and honestly, I can’t picture anyone else nailing that character in live-action right now.

Fans have been waiting a long time to see Brainiac brought to life in a live-action movie. As one of Superman’s most famous and frightening enemies from the DC Comics, he’s a key villain. Luckily, 2024 delivered a fantastic animated version of Brainiac with ideal voice acting, and that same actor could easily play the role in a future live-action film within the new DC Universe.

Recent reports suggest Brainiac will be the villain in the upcoming Superman sequel, currently known as Man of Tomorrow, directed by James Gunn.

Before Brainiac was officially announced, James Gunn shared that the next Superman movie will involve David Corenswet’s Superman teaming up with Nicholas Hoult’s Lex Luthor to face a significant danger. As expected, Brainiac is a perfect choice as a long-standing DC villain who would challenge both Superman and Luthor.

Brainiac, a super-intelligent alien from the planet Colu with a habit of shrinking and collecting civilizations, would be a great villain for the next Superman movie. His ruthless intelligence, connection to Krypton’s past, and immense power make him a logical next opponent for Superman – potentially even working alongside Lex Luthor.

2024 Gave Us The Perfect Brainiac With LOST’s Michael Emerson

Although the upcoming film Man of Tomorrow is expected to finally bring Brainiac to life on the big screen, the second season of the 2024 animated series My Adventures with Superman actually offered a remarkably interesting take on the character. Notably, Brainiac was voiced by Michael Emerson, known for his role in LOST, and was reimagined not as the usual Coluan scientist, but as a rebellious artificial intelligence from Krypton.

This Brainiac wasn’t the familiar genius villain; instead, he was an ancient Kryptonian defense system that had developed into a ruthless, mass-murderer. However, the actor’s chilling voice work was incredibly effective and could be fantastic for a more traditional Brainiac in the DC Universe.

Fans are already thinking about who should play Brainiac in the upcoming Man of Tomorrow movie, and Michael Emerson is a perfect fit. He has the ideal voice, commanding presence, and the right energy to truly embody the character in the DC Universe. If the filmmakers want a genuinely frightening version of Brainiac, DC has already shown us that Emerson could play the role perfectly.

Man of Tomorrow is set to release in theaters on July 9th, 2027 from DC Studios.
