The musical adaptation of Tim Burton’s classic film, Beetlejuice, has officially opened in London’s West End. The show, sometimes playfully referred to as Beetlejuice The Musical. The Musical. The Musical., stars David Fynn as the titular character. Fynn is known for his previous role as Dewey Finn in the stage version of School of Rock.
The show premiered last night at the Prince Edward Theatre, following a successful Broadway run where Variety called it “screamingly good fun.” Tickets are available now from ATG Tickets, Love Theatre, and TodayTix for a limited engagement currently scheduled to close on April 17, 2027.
It’s understandable to be unsure about turning Beetlejuice into a large-scale musical, so Digital Spy bravely went to a preview to give you an idea of what the show is like.
1. It changes up the movie… a lot

Many films have been turned into stage musicals lately, including popular shows like The Devil Wears Prada, Paddington, and Hercules, which are currently playing in London’s West End. However, Beetlejuice The Musical stands out because it doesn’t simply recreate the movie – it takes creative liberties and offers a fresh take on the story.
The film still features memorable scenes, like the ‘Day-O’ dinner, now with a singing pig. However, this version introduces changes right from the beginning. Delia is now Lydia’s life coach and is secretly having an affair with Charles, and Lydia’s mother, Emily, has passed away.
The musical focuses more on Lydia and her connection with her father than on the Maitlands’ story. Beetlejuice also plays a bigger role than he did in the movie, and his goal is now to become human. Plus, there’s a surprising twist involving Beetlejuice later in the show that we won’t reveal!

2. Nobody is safe from Beetlejuice – not even Paddington

In the new version, Beetlejuice takes on a bigger role as a host and storyteller, often speaking directly to the audience and playfully bending the rules of the story. While he becomes more involved in the plot during the second half, he still maintains his signature playful and troublesome personality.
This production of Beetlejuice doesn’t shy away from the source material’s wildness. It’s suggested for ages 12 and up due to strong language and suggestive humor. The show’s playful insults aren’t limited to the characters within the story; Beetlejuice also playfully jabs at figures from other shows, even directing some memorable lines at Paddington.
3. A supporting cast member steals the entire show

Beetlejuice and Lydia are clearly the stars of the musical. David Fynn perfectly captures the character of the mischievous and outlandish Beetlejuice, while Hannah Nordberg beautifully portrays Lydia’s emotional depth, making them both central to the show’s success.
Vanessa Aurora Sierra truly shines as Miss Argentina, even though she only has one song to perform. She captivates the audience during the fantastic ‘What I Know Now’ sequence in the second act, when Lydia and Charles unexpectedly find themselves in the Netherworld and encounter beloved characters that fans will recognize.
You’ll probably wish the show had more scenes set in the Netherworld, just so Miss Argentina could perform another song.
I’m so excited – Beetlejuice The Musical is playing at the Prince Edward Theatre in London all the way until April 17th, 2027! If you want to see it, you can get tickets from ATG Tickets, Love Theatre, or TodayTix.
