Beetlejuice Beetlejuice sets new record for Jenna Ortega with huge opening
As a die-hard fan who has grown up with Tim Burton’s whimsical world, I couldn’t contain my excitement when Beetlejuice Beetlejuice hit theaters! The anticipation was palpable, and the movie did not disappoint. With its impressive $110 million debut, it’s safe to say that the sequel has set a new benchmark for Jenna Ortega, surpassing even her small role in Iron Man 3.
Beetlejuice Beetlejuice has opened with a bang, setting a new record for Jenna Ortega.
On September 6, the long-awaited follow-up movie premiered in theaters, and, as reported by Deadline, it’s amassed a remarkable $110 million at U.S. box offices within its opening weekend.
In comparison to the 1988 film, its successor significantly exceeded expectations and grossed an impressive total of $74.7 million during its entire run in cinemas. Not only did it outshine the original, but it even surpassed its own projected earnings of $100 million.
30 years following the initial film’s storyline, we find ourselves back in the company of characters like Beetlejuice (Michael Keaton), Lydia (Winona Ryder), and Delia Deetz (Catherine O’Hara) in this new installment.
The audience is further acquainted with Lydia’s troubled teenage child, Astrid, portrayed by Jenna Ortega. A shocking event leads the trio of Deetz women to revisit the haunted house in Winter River. But, when Astrid discovers an old model in the attic, more turmoil arises.
The movie launch of “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” has set a new record as the largest U.S. debut for Ortega, surpassing even her appearance in Iron Man 3, where she portrayed the Vice President’s daughter.
In terms of box office success, the comedy-horror film ranks as the second largest opening for director Tim Burton, trailing only behind “Alice in Wonderland” which grossed approximately $116.1 million.
In anticipation, the new film features Justin Theroux, Monica Bellucci, Willem Dafoe, and Danny DeVito as part of its ensemble cast. At present, it boasts a commendable 76% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, though it fails to quite match the 83% score of its previous installment.
Digital Spy’s review mentioned: ‘Beetlejuice Beetlejuice’ may not be able to recreate the groundbreaking and one-of-a-kind spectacle that was ‘Beetlejuice’ from 1988, but it certainly preserves its quirky, enjoyable spirit.
Beetlejuice Beetlejuice is now out in cinemas.
