Beetlejuice 2’s Michael Keaton explains how it improves on the first movie

As a seasoned gamer and movie aficionado who has spent countless hours traversing dimensions and battling otherworldly entities, I can confidently say that Beetlejuice Beetlejuice is shaping up to be an absolute gem. The original film was a staple in my childhood, and the fact that Michael Keaton himself considers this sequel to surpass its predecessor has me genuinely excited.

Actor Michael Keaton, who played the leading role in “Beetlejuice,” recently shared insights on how the sequel surpasses the original, using the term “charming” to describe certain scenes.

36 years after the initial film, the subsequent installment finds our main character, Keaton, reuniting with Lydia Deetz, now a grown woman played by Winona Ryder. This time around, she’s attempting to protect her teenage daughter, Astrid, who is the central figure in this new story. (Jenna Ortega portrays Astrid.)

Before the movie’s debut on September 6, Keaton, Ryder, and Justin Theroux (who portrays Lydia’s husband Rory) recently chatted with Total Film to provide hints about the eagerly awaited sequel. Keaton expressed his belief that this new film surpasses the original 1987 production.

“He stated (from GamesRadar), ‘This version has a more profound narrative.’ The audience feels a deeper bond with the other characters. There are elements that I didn’t anticipate, which are simply wonderful. Instead of eagerly waiting for specific events or wishing for Beetlejuice to get wild, I find myself immersed in the experience.”

Besides the previously mentioned group of four stars, Tim Burton’s latest film features Catherine O’Hara, Monica Bellucci, Burn Gornam, Danny DeVito, Arthur Conti and Willem Dafoe. Notably, Willem Dafoe has hinted at his character as a disillusioned actor transitioning into a detective role.

He shared with Variety that although he hasn’t watched any footage yet, the experience was enjoyable as he portrayed a police officer in the afterlife, meaning he’s now deceased. In his previous life, he was known for his roles in B-movie action flicks. However, an accident led him to this new stage.

“Since I possess certain abilities, I’ve taken on the role of a detective in the afterlife. That’s my occupation. However, it’s worth noting that my past as a B-movie action star influences this character, as expressed by the actor who portrays Wolf Jackson.”

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice is in cinemas on September 6.
