Beatlemania, Through the Eyes of Paul McCartney

In 1963, The Beatles embarked on a remarkable journey. After their successful first UK tour, they were poised for success. This success led to invitations to perform on popular TV shows in the region and eventually a residency at the Olympia Theatre in Paris. As their popularity grew, so did the excitement, marking the birth of what we now know as “Beatlemania” – a global phenomenon of unprecedented fan hysteria.

A forthcoming exhibition titled “Rearview Mirror: Liverpool-London-Paris” at Gagosian London, featuring Paul McCartney, will take us on a journey back to the period between December 1963 and February 1964. This unique show offers a behind-the-scenes glimpse into the life of one of music’s longest-lasting legends. The presentation includes various multi-image works and individual photos, captured by McCartney on his 35mm Pentax camera and presumed lost for over five decades.

The photos displayed offer an intimate glimpse into the lives of pop legends, showcasing their tender moments as well as McCartney’s hidden artistic talents. These images, sourced directly from original negatives and contact sheets, have been carefully remastered and personally signed by the artist before being presented within frames designed by him.

From August 28 to October 4, “Rearview Mirror: Liverpool-London-Paris” is set to be displayed, serving as a sequel to the artist’s initial exhibition with the gallery this year at their Beverly Hills location. Simultaneously, “Eye of the Storm” is currently on show at the de Young, Fine Arts Museum of San Francisco, and will continue until October 5.
