BBC’s trending Lennie James drama gets 100% Rotten Tomatoes score
As a seasoned gamer of life and TV dramas, I must admit that the BBC’s new offering, Mr Loverman, has truly captivated me like no other game ever could. The series, with its perfect 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes, is not just another addition to my watch list; it’s a masterpiece that has left an indelible mark on my heart and mind.
The BBC’s new Lennie James drama Mr Loverman has landed a perfect score on Rotten Tomatoes.
In the series, an actor from “Line of Duty” takes on the role of a vibrant 74-year-old man named Barrington ‘Barry’ Jedidiah Walker, who is well-known in Hackney for his outsized character.
Despite Sharon D Clarke, who’s been married to Barry for 50 years, harboring suspicions about his infidelity, she remains oblivious to the fact that Barry has been carrying on a long-term affair with his friend Morris, played by Ariyon Bakare.
As I type this, the show “Mr Loverman” is currently enjoying a flawless 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with several critics commending it for its authentic portrayal of mature gay relationships.
In our four-star review for the series in Digital Spy, we expressed: “By the finale of ‘Mr Loverman’, it seems like you’ve witnessed an honest and genuine production, and while there are some unresolved aspects, they appear intentional and reflective of life’s authentic imperfections.
In simpler terms, The Guardian viewed Mr. Loverman as an unusual, more prickly story that focuses on the Windrush generation, whereas The Times considered it a sensitive and poignant depiction of an older romantic relationship between two men.
“It’s a breath of fresh air when so many portrayals of hidden homosexuality, particularly within ethnic minority groups, are dominated by endless hardship, to encounter a show that celebrates its characters’ independence.
Many viewers have also expressed appreciation for Mr. Loverman, as seen by the numerous comments shared on social media platforms.
One viewer praised Mr Loverman on BBC iPlayer, stating that it deserves a BAFTA nomination due to its exceptional quality. They found it to be heartfelt, impactful, and emotionally intense. They couldn’t resist watching all 8 episodes, with Lennie James delivering an outstanding performance.
Last week I watched the movie “Mr Loverman” and it was a moving experience. It managed to be both laugh-out-loud funny and deeply sad at the same time. The acting was top-notch.
Mr Loverman, based on the novel by Bernadine Evaristo, airs on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
