Holliday Grainger is back as Rachel Carey for the third season of the popular drama, The Capture. The new season, set to premiere in spring 2026, will continue the story a year after the events of the previous season.
A year ago, Rachel Carey revealed a secret government program called Correction by broadcasting a fake video of a minister on live television. The program, run by the UK intelligence service, involved secretly manipulating videos.
While investigating the misuse of a surveillance program called Correction, Carey has been appointed Acting Commander of Counter Terrorism Command. She’s committed to rebuilding public confidence in surveillance using a new camera system called Operation Veritas. However, a devastating and meticulously planned terrorist attack on the center of British power occurs, leaving only one person to witness the event.

I’m really getting sucked into this case as I dig deeper – it’s way bigger than I thought. It’s not just a simple mystery; it’s a full-blown geopolitical crisis that seems to have infected everyone at the top in Britain – politicians, intelligence agencies, even the news. This conspiracy goes right to the heart of the government, and honestly, I have no idea who’s really in charge. Things are getting seriously dangerous, and I’m running out of people I can trust. I’m starting to wonder just how far I’m willing to go to uncover the truth.
Okay, so I was stoked to hear Killian Scott – you might know him from shows like Strike, Kaos, and Dublin Murders – is joining the cast for season three. Apparently, he’s going to have a really important part to play, which is awesome!

Several original cast members are returning for the new season, including Indira Varma as BBC Newsnight presenter Khadija Khan, Ben Miles as Danny Hart, Lia Williams as Gemma Garland, Ginny Holder as DI Nadia Latif, Ron Perlman as CIA agent Frank Napier, Nigel Lindsay as DSI Tom Kendricks, Tessa Wong as DC Chloe Tan, and Daisy Waterstone as Abigail Carey.
Originally debuting in 2019, The Capture has been highly praised by critics. The first season centered around Carey (Grainger) investigating whether Lance Corporal Shaun Emery (Callum Turner) committed the murder of his lawyer, Hannah Roberts (Laura Haddock). It earned a 92% “Fresh” rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and TV Insider described it as a “terrifically twisty and intensely suspenseful” six-part spy thriller.

Similarly, Paste Magazine praised the show as both thought-provoking and exciting, saying it’s definitely worth watching and might even make you want to put tape over your webcam… just to be safe.
The show’s second season, which launched in 2022, earned a perfect 100% rating on the review platform. According to The Independent, when it’s at its peak, The Capture is the most compelling British thriller since Homeland.
The Boston Globe also noted that the film is effective thanks to its strong acting and suspenseful scenes. They said it’s engaging enough to keep you hooked, even though you might find the story unbelievable.
Season three of The Capture will air on BBC One and BBC iPlayer in spring 2026.
