A star-studded upcoming BBC drama has shared an exciting update with fans.

California Avenue

In this captivating drama, we follow Lela (played by Erin Doherty) and her child as they find sanctuary in a hidden trailer park. Here, a broken family will mend their relationships, banish old ghosts and confront demons, and an unforeseen romance will blossom – as indicated in the official summary. Key actors include Bill Nighy, Helena Bonham Carter, and Erin Doherty.

The description includes it being “lively” and “full of humor and affection,” but a specific release date has yet to be disclosed.

However, it has been reported that filming has begun on the BBC One and iPlayer six-part series.

Per Screen Daily, California Avenue is mostly shooting on location in Hertfordshire.

Known for his BAFTA-recognized series “The English,” Hugo Blick is responsible for penning, directing, and overseeing the production of this program.

For several decades now, using comedies, political dramas, and even western genres, I’ve aimed to push the boundaries of what TV storytelling is capable of, as expressed in a recent declaration.

In the series titled “California Avenue“, Hugo has skillfully created a realm filled with cherished connections and unforeseen disclosures, all presented with a vast amount of warmth and abundant humor, as noted by Executive producer and Drama Republic co-founder Greg Brenman.

In the upcoming production, Nighty and Bonham Carter are cast as Lela’s parents named Jerry and Eddie. The role of the charismatic outsider, Cooper, will be played by Tom Burke, who is best known for his work in ‘Strike’.

California Avenue will be coming to BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
