BBC’s “sensational” new Agatha Christie adaptation divides fans with show premiere
The BBC’s new Agatha Christie adaptation Towards Zero has divided fans after premiering last night.
The series centers around a renowned tennis player navigating a publicized divorce, choosing instead to share a seaside hideaway with his former spouse and new companion. Later, a homicide occurs, leading many individuals to become suspects.
In “The Haunting of Bly Manor,” Oliver Jackson-Cohen portrays tennis player Neville Strange, Matthew Rhys takes on the role of the inspector, and Anjelica Huston stars as Lady Tressilian, the stern coastal home owner.
Following the broadcast of the initial episode on BBC One last night, as well as the release of the subsequent episodes on iPlayer, there was a flurry of discussion on social media platforms about this new adaptation.
Viewers’ reactions, whether they’ve watched all three parts or not, spanned a wide spectrum.
In different opinions, some folks adored it, but others thought it was dull. The alterations made when transforming the 1944 novel into a 2025 TV series drew both approval and criticism, based on who you talk to.
As I scroll through my Instagram feed, I’m blown away by the flood of amazing comments about this show. Folks are raving about it being simply fantastic and downright sensational. The mystery is keeping everyone hooked, and let me tell you, they aren’t wrong about the stunning visuals capturing the beauty of Devon like never before. It’s a masterpiece!
One fan remarked, “I really enjoyed it, despite its familiar plot. It offered a unique perspective compared to my recollection.
I enjoyed every single episode on iPlayer. I was particularly fond of the actors, the atmosphere, the costumes, and the overall mood. However, I must confess that certain modifications didn’t seem to contribute significantly to my enjoyment or curiosity.
Wow, this was incredibly dull,” the feedback stated. “I struggled to keep going through episode 1, but by halfway through episode 2, I just couldn’t take it anymore and turned it off.
A different viewer commented: “I was able to watch for just 15 minutes. To be honest, I find it hard to comprehend the differences between this adaptation and the original book.
On X’s platform, some spectators criticized the adaptation as ‘dull’, expressing dissatisfaction with its ‘sluggish beginning’. Despite these comments, many also lauded the visuals and performances.
A spectator who truly appreciated the performance remarked: “Since I haven’t read the book yet, I can’t criticize the storyline. Perhaps I’ll read it later to understand all the commotion surrounding it.
You can watch the entire “Towards Zero” right now on BBC iPlayer. Tune in to BBC One this coming Sunday, March 9th, for episode 2.
