BBC’s returning crime drama reveals first look at new guest stars
Oh, Shetland fans like me are simply overjoyed with the announcement of the new season! The addition of Ian Hart and Vincent Regan to the cast is just the cherry on top of an already scrumptious crime drama sundae. As someone who’s been following this series since its inception, I can’t help but feel like a local Shetlander welcoming newcomers into their tight-knit community.
BBC series Shetland has unveiled a first look at the new season’s guest stars.
The highly anticipated crime series will come back for its ninth installment next month, featuring new supporting actors such as Ian Hart from “Mr Bates Vs The Post Office” and Vincent Regan of “One Piece”.
In the initial glimpses of the upcoming episodes, you can see our two actors actively engaged, with Regan’s character exiting a small boat (dinghy).
This year, two new stars, Stuart Campbell from “SAS Rogue Heroes”, Nalini Chetty of “Six Four”, Robert Jack known for “Damaged”, Lesley Hart from “River City”, and Jimmy Yuill, a star from “EastEnders”, were brought into the cast.
Hart expressed his excitement for starting an exciting journey to the Shetlands, a destination he’s longed to explore. Adding to that delight, experiencing this amazing drama there makes it even more wondrous, he mentioned back then.
Regan expressed her excitement about becoming part of the acclaimed BBC series “Shetland.” Her character and his kin play crucial roles in the complex, shadowy narrative, and she can’t wait to witness how the plot develops.
The detective series is adapted from Ann Cleeves’ books, and stars Ashley Jensen and Alison O’Donnell as leads. They portray inspectors Ruth Calder and Alison ‘Tosh’ McIntosh in the show. In the upcoming episodes, the storyline revolves around Tosh’s friend going missing.
Back in March, it was announced that Shetland would be renewed for seasons 9 and 10, with Jensen eagerly looking forward to returning to set.
She expressed her joy about going back to the Shetland Isles to portray the character DI Ruth Calder again, a role that offers such a rich complexity,” she stated. “The response to the previous season was astonishing, and I’m eagerly looking forward to untangling even more mystery.
Without question, the Shetland Islands are stunningly beautiful – a truly unforgettable and distinctive location for filming. I can hardly wait to board that small aircraft once more and revisit this captivating place soon.
Shetland returns on Wednesday, November 6 on BBC One and iPlayer.
