BBC’s “razor-sharp” period thriller with two perfect seasons gets exciting update ahead of return

The BBC drama SAS Rogue Heroes has been a major success for the network, with both seasons earning high praise from critics. Creator Steven Knight recently shared some promising news about the third season, which was announced in September of last year.

Steven Knight, the creator of shows like Peaky Blinders and A Thousand Blows, as well as the game show Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?, recently told Radio Times about the current status of things.

He confirmed they were currently filming, revealing the location was France. He didn’t share any further details, but said the footage was looking great.

Knight was also asked how long he’d like the show he’d go on for, and gave quite the coy answer.

It’s hard to say for sure until we actually start making it, but I’m hoping we can continue working on this until the war is over.

Season 2 concluded with the D-Day landings in June 1944, a crucial moment that shifted the tide of the war against Nazi Germany.

It’s still unclear how many episodes season 3 will have, but Knight mentioned last year that he’s hoping for at least a fourth season.

He also said at the time that he’d like the show to explore “just a bit beyond” the end of war.

Season 3 will feature four new actors: Lorne MacFadyen, known for his work on Grantchester; Nick Hargrove from Devotion; Andrew Dawson of Brassic; and Jake Jarratt.

Both seasons of the show have received perfect 100% scores from critics on Rotten Tomatoes. Critics at The Upcoming especially praised the show’s clever and impactful writing, while The Arts Desk called Jack O’Connell’s performance as the lead actor exciting and genuinely frightening.

Okay, so I’ve been checking out the reviews, and The Guardian basically said this show is awesome – like, seriously cool and a total thrill ride. Cultured Vultures had a funny take: they said just turn your brain off, don’t worry about if it’s all true, and just enjoy the ride when things get good!

SAS Rogue Heroes seasons 1 and 2 can be streamed on BBC iPlayer.

The latest issue of Living Legends is now available, and it’s dedicated to the incredible Dolly Parton! You can find “Dolly at 80” at newsagents and online for only £8.99.
