BBC’s Northern Ireland-set soapy crime drama confirms return with exciting new cast

BBC Northern Ireland is bringing back the series, “Hope Street,” complete with a special landmark episode.

This upcoming fifth season finds us returning to the fictitious Northern Ireland town of Port Devine, where a local police unit delves into the mysteries surrounding crimes in their community.

Filming is now underway in Donaghadee for the upcoming season, marking a significant milestone as it approaches its 50th episode with fresh installments.

What to Read Next

In the upcoming plot, we’ll introduce two fresh faces to the town of Port Devine: Constable Donal Gallagher, previously seen on Krypton with Cameron Cuffe, and Doctor Sasha Cookson, who hails from The Lovers, played by Jenn Murray.

Donald is recognized as a popular, longtime rugby player in our community who had his professional journey prematurely ended due to an injury. On the other hand, Sasha is known for being straightforward and blunt, which can sometimes irk others, but it doesn’t seem to bother Donald.

Although Donal is still healing from a fresh heartbreak, when he crosses paths with Sasha, there’s an instant spark between them – but who might end up getting hurt?

The characters Kerri Quinn (as Marlene Pettigrew), Tara Lynne O’Neill (as Eve Dunlop), Aaron McCusker (as Clint Devine-Dunwoody), and Niamh McGrady (as Nicole Devine-Dunwoody) will reappear for the upcoming eight-part season.

Among those reprising their roles are Marcus Onilude as Luke Jackson, Finnian Garbutt as Ryan Power, Katie Shortt as Brandi McClure, and Eleanor Methven as Lois Dunlop.

Mary McKeagney, Commissioning Editor at BBC Northern Ireland, remarked that “Hope Street” beautifully encapsulates the humor and warmth of this location and it’s been wonderful to observe its resonance with audiences throughout the UK.

As a devoted fan, reaching episode 50 is quite an accomplishment, and I can’t help but feel immensely proud of this remarkable series. The journey it has taken us on so far has been nothing short of extraordinary!

Helen Munson, Commissioning Editor at BBC Daytime, stated: “We’re returning for series five in picturesque Port Devine! It’s a delight to collaborate once more with Long Story and the talented team in Northern Ireland who breathe life into the characters of Hope Street so wonderfully.

Hope Street seasons 1-4 are available to stream now on BBC iPlayer.

The debut print issue of Digital Spy’s magazine titled “British Comedy Legends” is out! Grab your copy from newsstands or purchase it online, available for only £3.99.
