BBC’s new “provocative” thriller with a “shocking scandal” confirms release date in dramatic trailer

I just saw the first trailer for BBC’s new thriller, Wild Cherry, and it looks amazing! The BBC is calling it “provocative and deliciously honest,” which has me totally hooked. Plus, the cast is incredible – Eve Best from House of the Dragon, Carmen Ejogo who I loved in The Penguin, Imogen Faires from Marcella, and a new face, Amelia May. It’s coming out this month, and I can’t wait!

The new drama series begins on Saturday, November 15th, set in an exclusive community in the English countryside. It focuses on a shocking scandal that puts a huge strain on the relationship between a mother and her daughter.

Life seems idyllic for mothers Juliet and Lorna in the wealthy community of Richford Lake. However, when their teenage daughters, Grace and Allegra, are caught up in a major scandal at their private school, long-hidden secrets and lies begin to surface, shaking up the entire town.

What to Read Next

Okay, so I just finished watching this show, and honestly, it really hit me. It’s a story about moms and daughters figuring things out together – dealing with having a good life, how much influence they have, and all the craziness of social media. It’s like, a really relatable look at growing up, for both generations, you know?

The saying ‘like mother, like daughter’ feels especially true in a world full of hidden dangers and betrayals, even in places that seem perfect.

According to the BBC, this new tension is being fueled by a combination of things: constant social media use, secret apps, and strong pressure from friends.

This series delves into the lengths parents will go to for their children, and also examines the complex relationship between teenage daughters and their mothers. It questions whether daughters are truly following in their mothers’ footsteps, or if outside influences are at play.

The film features a talented cast including James Murray from The Crown, Hugh Quarshie known for Holby City, Sophie Winkleman of Sanditon, Nathaniel Martello-White from The Winter King, and Hayat Kamille who starred in Vikings: Valhalla.

Nicôle Lecky created and wrote the six-part series, Wild Cherry. She also stars in the show and served as an executive producer. Lecky previously won a BAFTA award for her work.

Among Lecky’s acting roles is the dark comedy Sweetpea, in which she appeared with Ella Purnell, who is known for her work on Yellowjackets.

Speaking about the second season of Sweetpea, creator Fiona Lecky shared with Sky that it’s a good moment for a show where a character can freely pursue their desires.

This story centers around a woman driven by anger and seeking revenge. Television offers a fantastic way to explore experiences outside of our own.

It seems like there’s a real hunger right now for stories about strong, angry women. That’s fantastic – and it’s great to see more complex, flawed female characters, even antiheroes, gaining popularity. I personally love seeing that kind of representation.

You can watch all episodes of Wild Cherry on BBC iPlayer starting Saturday, November 15th at 6am. The first two episodes will also air on BBC One at 9pm that same day.

The latest issue of Living Legends is now available! You can purchase Ariana & Witches at newsagents or online for only £8.99.
