BBC’s new murder-mystery dubbed a “gripping series” ‘is on TV tonight
BBC’s new German crime drama The Black Forest Murders is available to watch on TV tonight.
The four-part crime drama, purchased by the BBC from STUDIOCANAL, has been labeled as an “engrossing” viewing experience by BBC’s Head of Programme Acquisitions, Sue Deek.
The drama is based on Walter Roth’s real-life book, SOKO Erle, and revolves around a police investigation conducted in 2016 regarding the killings of two young women in southern Germany.

The crime drama kicks off as the initial victim, brutally murdered, is discovered, leading to an intense police probe. Leading this investigation is Detective Barbara Kramer, portrayed by Nina Kunzendorf.
As part of my dedicated gaming squad, I’m relentless in our pursuit of the truth when another killing disrupts our investigation flow.
Or:
With my gaming team working side by side, I never rest until we uncover the truth, but a second murder has thrown us off course.
Detective Kramer and her team need to determine if the two homicides share the same perpetrator and if there’s a connection between these deaths and a comparable incident in Austria.
For months, under the scrutiny of an attentive community, police officers have been dealing with increasing stress. However, their determination eventually paid off as they succeeded in their endeavors.”
“Police officers have been subjected to public scrutiny and mounting pressure for several months. But, after a long time, their efforts were finally recognized and rewarded.
In an interview, Kunzendorf offered some fascinating tidbits about her character Barbara. She explained that unlike many TV crime detectives, Barbara isn’t weighed down by a complex past or personal struggles. Instead, the crux of the story revolves around her investigations.
Information isn’t always provided in extensive detail, which I appreciate since it leaves space for us and the viewers to think creatively about what’s not explicitly stated.
Kunzendorf is joined by Tilman Strauß who plays fellow officer Thomas Riedle.
In a press release, Deeks stated that “The Black Forest Murders” is a true-to-life and gripping crime show centered around the diligent efforts of an investigative unit.
Besides being an engaging murder mystery, ‘The Black Forest Murders’ delves deeply into the intricacies of unraveling complex crimes and the mental strain endured by those engaged in intense investigations like these. You can catch it on BBC Four every week from 9pm, or stream it as a full series on BBC iPlayer.
