BBC’s near-perfect returning thriller with Doctor Who and Broadchurch stars is back on TV tonight

The thrilling BBC series The Capture, known for its stars from Doctor Who and Broadchurch, returns to television tonight with a new season. Fans are eager to see if the third installment will live up to the show’s previous success as a completely new case unfolds.

Following a wave of scandals that have shaken public trust, Rachel Carey (Holliday Grainger) unexpectedly steps into the role of Acting Commander at the Counter Terrorism Command.

Rachel tries to win back the public’s confidence by introducing a new surveillance system, but her plans are interrupted when a dangerous terrorist attack unfolds in London, putting her life at risk.

The new season explores a pressing question: how do we defend the truth when dishonesty is so common? It also asks how we can believe our own eyes, with the rise of increasingly realistic fake videos and images.

The popular conspiracy thriller returns to television tonight after almost four years. The first episode of its third season – which might be the last – will air at 9pm on BBC One, and will also be available to stream on BBC iPlayer.

Both of the show’s first two seasons—which premiered in 2019 and 2022—received high praise from critics. Season one currently holds a 92% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and season two has a perfect 100% score.

Although there aren’t many reviews yet, the third season is getting a good reaction. The Independent praised it as both “BBC’s most underrated drama” and “the most prescient show on television.”

RadioTimes.com also loved the show, calling it the best thriller on TV and praising its return with a more exciting, over-the-top, and captivating season than ever before.

The show, featuring Indira Varma (known from Doctor Who) and Andrew Buchan (Broadchurch), is reportedly ending with its current season. However, it seems it will have a strong finale, as writer Ben Chanan has hinted that the third installment includes their best episode yet.

The Capture airs on BBC One and streams on BBC iPlayer.
