BBC’s long-running “fantastically funny” sitcom shares update on show future
The classic BBC sitcom “Not Going Out,” created by Lee Mack, has recently shared some news about its upcoming plans.
Back in 2006, I found myself immersed in a hilarious series where the comedian brings a touch of reality to the screen by portraying a fictionalized version of himself. His daily life is a rollercoaster ride between various jobs, with many days spent either at the local pub or lounging in his apartment, engrossed in television.
Featuring a changing lineup of co-stars like Tim Vine, Sally Bretton, and Hugh Dennis, the comedy series “Not Going Out” has thrived for almost two decades on the BBC, and they’ve recently announced that it will return for its 15th season.

Mack expressed his joy in a statement, stating that he’s thrilled once more by the BBC’s exceptional backing for studio sitcoms. Being a genre I’ve long admired, it’s an honor and a convenience to be involved for so many years – I even keep the undergarments they provide me at home as an excuse not to go shopping!
Not Going Out is thriving as it reaches its hundredth episode, thanks primarily to the extraordinary creativity of Lee Mack, who has an incredible knack for filling a show with jokes,” commented Jon Petrie, Head of Comedy at the BBC. “We’re eager for audiences to see what the next phase holds for Lee and Lucy.
The renewed order arrives before the show returns next month after a two-year break, featuring a six-episode fourteenth season that will advance the timeline as Lee and Lucy relocate to a rural home following their kids’ college enrollment.
Season 14 resumes the narrative after several years, as the couple leaves their empty suburban home behind and embraces a new phase in life filled with quality time together… but of course, trouble is brewing!” (Spoiler: plenty of it!) describes the synopsis for the upcoming episodes.
The announcement will undoubtedly please enthusiasts of the program, as one viewer on IMDb labeled it as “shamelessly idiotic,” “hilariously amusing,” and an “underappreciated treasure,” commending Mack’s “oddly appealing” portrayal.
As a devoted fan, I can’t help but express my delight in a comedy that was brimming with quick-witted humor, the kind only Lee Mack and Tim Vine could pull off so effortlessly. It left me giggling uncontrollably, practically rolling on the floor as I witnessed the hilarious escapades of the cast.
Not Going Out returns next month on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
