BBC’s “knotty” and “flawed” Welsh crime drama is about to be your next binge-watch

Coming soon on BBC, a gripping Welsh crime series titled “The One That Got Away“. Prepare yourself for a thrilling viewing experience that could become your next must-see binge-watch!
As a gaming enthusiast, I’d say this show was penned by none other than Catherine Tregenna, who’s known for her work on shows like Law & Order UK, Doctor Who, and Casualty. What sets this series apart is its all-Welsh cast, featuring talents like Elen Rhys, Richard Harrington, Rhian Blythe, and even Ian Puleston-Davies from Corrie.
In a coastal town, the show centers around Detective Inspector Ffion Lloyd and Detective Sergeant Rick Sheldon, an ex-couple who find themselves partnered again as they investigate a murder case.
1. Apart from impacting the local community, the violence compels the ex-lovers to revisit unresolved matters between them. Furthermore, there’s a concern that another perpetrator could mimic this act of violence.
2. Beyond affecting the neighborhood, the tragedy makes it necessary for the former partners to confront their lingering disagreements. Additionally, there is worry that a similar crime may be repeated by someone else.
If you find this show somewhat recognizable, it’s likely due to it being an American adaptation of the TV show called “Cleddau“, which was previously broadcasted on S4C in the past year.
Returning to Wales for the shoot felt like coming home – diving headfirst into all things Welsh was an absolute delight. The tight-knit, gifted team made every moment feel effortless, turning it into something magical and extraordinary. I couldn’t help but feel incredibly fortunate.
Catherine Tregenna’s writing left me utterly impressed. Unlike conventional crime dramas, her work delves significantly deeper. What captivated me is that she doesn’t create heroes; instead, her characters are intricate, scarred, and authentic – each as imperfect as the next. It mirrors real life so well. In my opinion, it’s not just a drama about crime but a reflection on what it truly means to be human.
BBC Cymru Wales’ Head of Commissioning Nick Andrews stated: “The One That Got Away” is a suspenseful, intricate, and exhilarating thriller, wrapped around a captivating romance tale, showcasing an exceptional Welsh acting ensemble.
BBC Cymru Wales is thrilled to share the captivating Cymru Noir with our viewers. Prepare to be on the edge of your seat, as it’s sure to keep you hooked and tense simultaneously – a suspenseful viewing experience!
Next week, you can catch the new series! Starting on Tuesday, February 25th, every single episode will be available to stream on BBC iPlayer. And, if you prefer watching it live, the first episode will air on BBC One Wales at 9:10 PM. Enjoy your viewing experience!
