BBC’s Clive Myrie apologises for not declaring £60,000 in outside earnings

As a seasoned gamer of life, I find myself constantly navigating through the labyrinthine world of news and media, always seeking the truth amidst the chaos. The latest scandal involving Clive Myrie, the esteemed BBC presenter, has once again brought transparency to the forefront of public discourse.

BBC presenter Clive Myrie has apologised to the broadcaster over £60,000 of undeclared earnings.

The TV presenter leads BBC’s News at 10 and significant news updates, as well as Mastermind, and frequently stands in for Have I Got News for You. Since 2021, the company insists on disclosing all non-BBC work to keep financial records transparent.

According to a recent report by The Times, an undeclared sum was earned from four speaking engagements held between January and June this year. These engagements were for the Intermediary Mortgage Lenders Association, law firm Allen & Overy, investment bank ING, and the Association of Insurance and Risk Managers in Industry and Commerce.

The BBC told the publication that the first event wasn’t included due to a “processing error”.

After The Times’ article was released, a representative shared with Metro: “We’ve had a conversation with Clive to reiterate his obligations concerning the external events log, and he’s expressed regret for these oversights.

The four events and the earnings from each, totaling what Myrie made, will be detailed in BBC’s upcoming quarterly statement.

From 2023 to 2024, Myrie made a salary as a news reporter that fell within the range of £310,000 to £314,999. This income doesn’t account for any work outside of BBC, but it doesn’t include special projects like Mastermind either – those are paid separately through BBC’s commercial branch.

On BBC One, the news is broadcast several times throughout the day, whereas the BBC News Channel operates continuously for 24 hours straight.
