BBC’s “brilliant” Buffy-style show that “has everything” has just been added to Netflix
The day of the dominos, initially drawing numerous Buffy-like comparisons upon its initial release, is now available on Netflix.
The BBC series unfolds as a contemporary, supernatural witch storyline, focusing on the character Domino (portrayed by Siena Kelly from “Adult Material”). Domino is in search of guidance to control her powers and, in addition, she uses dating apps to satiate her requirement for draining people’s vitality.
2024 marked the debut of “Domino Day,” a production penned by the talented writer, Lauren Sequeira. Notably, her earlier works include contributions to the acclaimed series, “Gangs of London.

In an exclusive interview with Digital Spy before its debut, Sequeira mentioned Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Charmed, and True Blood as sources of inspiration. He also shared that the writers were considering a unique take on witches, departing from how these shows handled them.
The series is set in Manchester, but it had originally been envisioned in London.
Sequeira mentioned, “When I spoke with the BBC, they expressed a desire to represent various cities across the country, and I agreed, saying, ‘Absolutely, I’m game. All I require is a city.’ He added humorously, “If the show were set in a village, the dating pool might be somewhat limited.
She mentioned that there’s an incredibly charming atmosphere in Manchester. It has a somewhat gothic feel too, yet it’s strikingly contemporary as well.
In its assessment, Digital Spy awarded Domino Day four out of five stars, commending the production for its inventive use of symbolism, its exploration of LGBTQ+ themes, its stellar casting, and its thought-provoking treatment of moral ambiguity.
The BBC series is certified Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes, standing at an 88% rating.
The newspaper, The Times, stated: “Following an intriguing opening – unveiling a witch who serves coffee in Manchester and is being pursued by a group of witches due to suspicions she’s causing harm to humans – the storyline seemed to lose some of its intensity.
According to the Daily Telegraph, the series started off with some repetitive and overly dramatic expressions, but it eventually picked up pace and delivered a satisfying conclusion. As a form of entertainment meant to divert our attention, it was quite enchanting.
The majority of fan responses were overwhelmingly favorable. One viewer exclaimed, “This series encompasses everything,” while another praised it as an “ingenious twist on the theme of witchcraft.
As a devoted viewer, I can’t help but express my admiration for this outstanding production. The ensemble is superb, the narratives are captivating, and the visual effects are simply breathtaking. It’s truly original, and I must say, BBC has done an exceptional job!
Domino Day aired on BBC Three and is now available on Netflix.
