Good news for fans of Ghosts! The beloved BBC comedy is returning, but this time as a movie! It’s been a little over two years since the Christmas special, and now the story will continue on the big screen.
The popular comedy series centers on Mike and Alison as they settle into Button House, which is haunted. Alison gains the ability to see and communicate with ghosts after a close call with death.
The series first aired in 2019 and ran for five seasons, appearing to end with a holiday special in 2023. However, the story isn’t over! A movie, Ghosts: The Possession of Button House, has been approved and is now in development.

Smith-Bynoe, Ritchie, and Lolly Adefope will return to their roles, joining Mathew Baynton, Simon Farnaby, Martha Howe-Douglas, Jim Howick, Laurence Rickard, and Ben Willbond, who also all write the show.
Okay, so I’m really excited to hear that Simon Hynd, the director who did seasons four and five, plus a couple of those awesome Christmas specials, is going to direct the movie! Plus, Alison Owen and Debra Hayward are producing, which is great news – they’re both really experienced.

The creators and writers of the show said they believed they’d finished with Button House at the end of the last season, and had no intention of returning.
We were thrilled when we came up with this story and couldn’t resist revisiting the haunted house for another adventure. We’re excited to reunite with the team and introduce some new members as we tell this moving story about life and death.
Owen and Hayward expressed their excitement about adapting the popular comedy for a wider cinematic audience. Producer Alison Carpenter added that both longtime fans and new viewers will love it.

Eva Yates, head of BBC Film, announced that the popular show Ghosts will return for another installment. This time, it will be a funny, movie-like story available to watch both in cinemas and on television.
Production on Ghosts: The Possession of Button House starts next month at West Horsley Place and nearby locations in Surrey. A release date hasn’t been announced yet.
Ghosts streams on BBC iPlayer.
