BBC’s Anna Maxwell Martin detective series shares first look at guest cast
As a fan of captivating crime dramas and cleverly written comedies, I am thrilled to learn about the upcoming BBC comedy-drama, Ludwig. With Anna Maxwell Martin and David Mitchell leading the cast, this series promises an intriguing blend of mystery, humor, and suspense that I simply cannot resist.
After finishing “A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder,” Anna Maxwell Martin will revisit the crime mystery genre in the upcoming BBC comedy-drama titled “Ludwig.” Alongside her, David Mitchell will also be a part of this production.
In the role of the main character, Mark from “Peep Show” plays John ‘Ludwig’ Taylor, a solitary puzzle enthusiast who emerges from seclusion upon the mysterious vanishing of his twin brother James.
To find James, Ludwig adopts his brother’s persona, immersing himself completely in James’s life. However, this deep dive compels him to grapple with his own identity along the way.
James stands apart from his brother, being a devoted family man and serving as the chief inspector of major investigations at the police department in Cambridge.
“Filling big shoes is tough for anyone, and it’s no different for Ludwig as he navigates being a father to an established family. This task is just as complex as solving the most gruesome crime scenes.”
“However, Ludwig does have one big advantage – his ability to see the world in puzzle form. John may be a master of all things cryptic, but can he crack the biggest puzzle of his life?”
In a different phrasing, the actor Maxwell Martin, known for his roles in Motherland and Line of Duty, portrays Ludwig’s sister-in-law and James’ wife, named Lucy Betts-Taylor.
Additionally, Ludwig features Izuka Hoyle from Big Boys as DS Alice Finch, alongside Sophie Willan, known for Alma’s Not Normal, playing the role of Holly Pinder, and Ralph Ineson from The Jetty taking on the character of Chief Constable Ziegler.
They are also accompanied by Dorothy Atkinson, from “The Gold,” playing the role of DCS Carol Shaw, and Dipo Ola, known for his work in “Landscapers,” portraying DI Russell Carter.
The main cast is rounded out by Gerran Howell from “Catch-22,” who plays DC Simon Evans, and Dylan Hughes from “Maternal,” portraying Henry Betts-Taylor.
As a devoted fan, I was thrilled to learn that some renowned actors will grace our screens in this upcoming show! Among them, the talented Derek Jacobi, the captivating Felicity Kendal, the witty Karl Pilkington, and the remarkable Rose Ayling-Ellis have all signed on for cameo roles. Can’t wait to see their appearances!
In addition to the main cast, actors Allan Mustafa (from “People Just Do Nothing”), Paul Chahidi (“This Country”), and Hammed Animashaun (“Black Ops”) will appear as guests in the upcoming six-episode series.
Ludwig airs on BBC One and BBC iPlayer in the autumn.
