BBC’s “anarchic” new show confirms stacked cast list with exciting names from across British drama

The BBC’s “anarchic” new show What It Feels Like For A Girl has confirmed its stacked new cast.

The show, derived from Paris Lees’ memoir, and penned by the same author, narrates the story of a teen named Byron, who encounters fellow kindred souls within Nottingham’s underground scene during the early 2000s.

As a gaming enthusiast, I can’t help but share an exciting update! It’s officially confirmed that Hannah Walters from Adolescence and Michael Socha from Showtrial have landed roles in upcoming productions. Meanwhile, Ellis Howard, known for her stellar performance in Catherine the Great, is set to star as Byron in a new project. Can’t wait to see their performances unfold!

In addition to the cast list, we have Calam Lynch from Bridgerton playing Max, Jake Dunn of Renegade Nell as Liam, Dickie Beau, known for Bohemian Rhapsody, as Peter, Laquarn Lewis from Jamie Johnson portraying Lady Die, Hannah Jones taking on the role of Sasha, Adam Ali, who appeared in Waterloo Road, as Dirty Damian, and Alex Thomas-Smith from Too Much as Sticky Nikki.

Actors Laura Haddock from “The Recruit,” Emma Shipp from “Rivals,” Sekou Diaby from “Boarders,” Laura Checkley from “Screw,” Oliver Huntingdon from “Sherwood,” Lorn Macdonald from “Bridgerton,” Rhys Connah from “Happy Valley,” Fay Ripley from “Cold Feet,” and Selina Mosinski, known for her role as Charity Shop Sue, have all joined the cast.

The description for “What It Feels Like For A Girl” can be rephrased as: “This drama offers a powerful, emotional and comical exploration of themes such as fleeing, personal growth, and self-harm.

In a fresh new era, brimming with opportunities for discovery, teenager Byron finds himself confined in a small, working-class community that’s yet to recover from the coal mine closure in the 80s. Eager for change and unphased by the means, Byron yearns to break free.

Life bursts with excitement as Byron dives into the pulsating underbelly of Nottingham, uncovering a world filled with booze, narcotics, and an unruly brood of miscreants – known as ‘The Fallen Divas.’

Byron encounters a group of similar-minded individuals, including Lady Die, Sticky Nikki, and Dirty Damian, while also developing a competitive relationship with the sharp-witted and beautiful Sasha.

Together, they lived a wild, pleasure-seeking lifestyle, stealing, begging, and partying their way through the vibrant nightlife of the United Kingdom during the 2000s. However, every party must eventually end, and when Byron became entangled with the charismatic yet dangerous Liam, an unexpected incident took place that would irrevocably alter their lives.

In his own words, Lees described the story as originating from a working-class background, and he felt it required actors who could portray its authenticity faithfully.

Liza Marshall, MD and executive producer at Hera Pictures stated: “We are incredibly proud of our exceptional cast for What It Feels Like for a Girl. They’re part of an outstanding group of creative minds, helping to bring Paris’s bold and unique vision to life on the screen.

Ellis and the entire group, a dynamic blend of fresh and seasoned performers, offer breathtaking acts, vividly portraying the chaotic yet clever personas in the play.

What It Feels Like For A Girl will air on BBC Three and BBC iPlayer.
