BBC viewers praise “chaotic” spinoff of beloved show after binge-watching full series
Audience members of the BBC have been praising enthusiastically over a humorous, side-splitting sequel to a well-liked sitcom, describing it as “disorganized” and “hilarious enough to make you laugh out loud.
Following the swift accumulation of admirers in “Motherland”, Amanda (portrayed by Lucy Punch) has now taken center stage in “Amandaland”. This new series debuted on BBC One and online streaming platform iPlayer last night.
After going through a divorce and her kids growing into teenagers, Amanda is currently residing in an apartment in South Harlesden, striving tirelessly to launch her burgeoning Instagram business.
As I reconnect with my old buddy Anne (Philippa Dunne), she’s clued me in on the secret to winning over the ‘coolest’ parents in our gaming circle, and it seems like a whole new level of social climbing lies ahead!
In addition to a recognizable character, Amanda’s mom, Felicity (played by Joanna Lumley), makes a reappearance, frequently evading her caretaker when possible.
Following its debut, numerous enthusiasts quickly watched the entire series on BBC iPlayer, expressing their excitement about the show on various platforms.
I’ve watched all episodes of Amandaland, and I couldn’t be happier about it! It complements Motherland perfectly. The writing is superb, and the humor had me laughing out loud. It strikes a perfect balance between being hilarious and awkward, making it a fantastic spin-off.
Many admired Lucy Punch’s portrayal of Amanda in the title role, remarking: “Lucy Punch delivers a remarkable performance as Amanda. Despite the potential for one-dimensionality, the script and her acting make the character incredibly nuanced and relatable – it’s a truly impressive piece of artistry.
A user commented: “Amandaland lived up to all my expectations. It was chaotic yet funny, and incredibly entertaining.
One viewer expressed their delight by saying: “Amandaland exceeded all my expectations and then some! Here’s to hoping for a season two with special guest spots from Julia, Liz, and Kevin!
Others expressed concern that it might not live up to the standard set by “Motherland,” featuring Anna Maxwell Martin, Diane Morgan, and Paul Ready.
One user of X observed, nonetheless: “I initially doubted that the portrayal of Amandaland would succeed, given its focus on what seemed like Motherland‘s least appealing character. Yet, revealing her own difficult mother humanizes Amanda, and the presence of ANNE adds depth to an already impressive narrative. Whew!
Before the premiere of “Amandaland”, one of its co-creators, Sharon Horgan, expressed her deep sadness at leaving behind “Motherland” and the affection she held for its characters.

I’m eagerly looking forward to presenting the upcoming trials of parenthood, along with the unique camaraderie that forms among parents at school entrances.
