BBC star quits their radio show just three MONTHS after it began - and insists surprise departure 'isn't the end, but the beginning'

On Saturday, a BBC personality announced their departure from their radio show, which had only been on air for three months. However, they emphasized that this wasn’t an ending, but rather a new beginning.

Gemma Oaten started hosting a radio show on BBC Radio Humberside in May, however, she informed her Instagram followers that she and the BBC had mutually decided to end their association.

Explaining her decision to leave in a lengthy caption, the former soap star, 40, wrote: ‘What joy it’s been to join @bbchumberside.

Yesterday’s performance I participated in was truly heartwarming; it moved me to tears (and I promise to share the reasons behind this emotion shortly). As always, I have a wealth of thoughts and stories but find myself limited by character constraints – a common occurrence for me.

‘I started with BBC Humberside in May & can’t express how much this job has meant…no actually…means to me! This isn’t the end, it’s the beginning.’

Gemma, best known for her role as Rachel Breckle in Emmerdale, continued the caption: ‘I can’t thank the fab @rob_dowell_radio enough for seeing something in me to give a chance to.

‘Rob, the whole building loves you & there’s good reason. You care & go above & beyond.

‘The time you have taken to guide, teach & encourage me has been mind blowing.

‘The fact that you do this for ALL your team is truly credit to you & why you’ve turned the station around.

‘Thanks to the beaut @charl.oloughlin who has been incredible since day 1, & to all the gang & DJ’s who have made me feel so welcome, valued & part of the family. It’s been a breath of fresh air.

‘To my main man @john anguish – I’ve no words to describe my gratitude. 3mths ago you showed me the radio desk & said I’d be driving it… I laughed! I thought ‘you must be mad?!’ But you did it! Your patience, knowledge & spirit makes you the most aces teacher & now dear friend.

‘I DROVE THE DESK ALL BY MYSELF THIS PAST WEEK…?! Words I NEVER thought I’d say. Even better, I LOVED every minute & can’t wait to do more!

“By the way, remember that skydiving event we mentioned earlier? It turns out even someone who’s terrified of heights would admit to it now! If you’re interested and want to support Seed Support UK, donations can be made via the link in our bio.”

Gemma sadly suffered from an eating disorder for 13 years before finding fame as an actress.

Her parents Marg and Dennis founded SEED, a charity offering help to all those with eating disorders.

She continued the caption: ‘Being home in Hull has been precious. Even sleeping in the craft room on the camp bed.

‘Being with Mum @margoaten & Dad has been so special (especially with our little Robin, sunset chats & pooches) as we’ve looked after each other whilst navigating through some challenging times (again, 1 for another day…)

‘Because right now, all I can reflect on is what I’ve achieved, the people that have helped me achieve it & the gratitude I feel.

‘Never give up on your dreams. Don’t let doubt rule you. You have more power & ability than you know. Give it a shot, please.

‘You matter. Gxx.’

Gemma’s followers flooded her comments with support.

They wrote: ‘You know as one door closes several more open well done’;

‘You were such a natural . I am sure you will be asked to do it again . I will never forget your laughter . I laughed with you ❤️ x’;

‘Well done it’s harder than people think’;

‘Being a radio host adds another layer to Gemma’s impressive skillset, making her truly remarkable.’ (Or) ‘Gemma, with her radio presenting role, further showcases her versatile talent, making her simply amazing.’

And, Rob, whom Gemma shouted out, wrote: ‘The whole team are great and want everyone in the team to succeed, so not got much to do with me that!

‘Glad that is been a really welcoming and positive experience starting at the Beeb!

Gemma replied: ‘well it takes a leader to her the best out of all but I agree… They are absolutely amazing ❤️ just take the compliment too it’s been amazing, here we go thank you so much xxx
