BBC presenter Lauren Laverne has shared that she has been diagnosed with cancer.
Today, August 21st, the presenter of BBC Radio 6 Music’s morning program and Radio 4’s Desert Island Discs took to Instagram to announce some news. She shared that she had detected it early and is anticipated to fully recuperate.
Posting a picture of herself beaming from her bed, Laverne shared this update: “Here’s a bit about me… I’ve just received some medical news – a cancer diagnosis. Fortunately, it was found early during routine testing, and I’m optimistic about making a complete recovery.”
Currently, I’m staying at the hospital, and I wanted to seize this opportunity to express my gratitude. Firstly, I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to the dedicated medical staff who, with their remarkable skills and compassion, have brought me this far in my recovery.
To those exceptional individuals who’ve been by my side at every turn – my heartfelt thanks could never fully express my gratitude, and know that my affection for each of you runs deep.
“I’d like to express my heartfelt gratitude to my esteemed colleagues from @itg_ltd, @bbc6music, @bbctheoneshow, and #DesertIslandDiscs. Your unwavering support and understanding in granting me the necessary time off has been instrumental in my recovery process.”
Laverne emphasized the importance of regular health screenings by encouraging fans to undergo early examinations, stating that “about half of us will develop cancer at some stage in our lives. If it happens, discovering it quickly makes all the difference.”
Typically, I’m responsible for creating a positive atmosphere on-air, yet if you’ve got some extra positivity to share, it would be greatly appreciated here. Wishing plenty of affection to those sailing the same sea or those who have reached safe harbor.
The radio host swiftly gathered well-wishes from listeners and acquaintances, such as broadcasters Gabby Logan, Clara Amfo, and Anita Rani, in the comments below his post on social media.
During the BBC Radio 6 Music breakfast show today, Deb Grant stood in for Laverne and played Stevie Wonder’s ‘We Can Work It Out’, dedicating it to her.
