BBC shares Eurovision 2025 update, with host city confirmed
As a seasoned gamer of Eurovision Song Contest, with memories stretching back to the 80s when ABBA and Céline Dion graced the stage, I couldn’t be more excited about the 2025 edition taking place in Basel, Switzerland! It’s like a dream come true as the contest returns to its birthplace almost 70 years later.
For the 2025 Eurovision Song Contest, the event dates have been officially set, and they also announced the city that will be hosting the competition next year.
In the competition held this year in Malmö, Nemo, a talented singer-rapper from Switzerland, emerged triumphant with an impressive score of 591 points, earned through his unique rendition of his own composition titled ‘The Code’.
In keeping with convention, the nation of the victor gets to host the upcoming contest, and today’s news reveals that Basel, Switzerland, will be the city hosting the event in 2025. The final showdown is scheduled for May 17, 2025, on a Saturday.
On Twitter, BBC announced information about the 2025 competition, also confirming their plan to air all UK broadcasts of the upcoming event next year.
The reveal of the host city for the Eurovision Song Contest initially surfaced on its official YouTube channel, showcased through a video that disclosed the destination.
Martin Österdahl, in his role as Executive Supervisor for the Eurovision Song Contest, expressed delight over the selection of Basel as the Host City for the Eurovision Song Contest 2025, organized by the EBU (European Broadcasting Union).

In 2025, it’s been confirmed that Switzerland’s city of Basel will be the stage for the 69th Eurovision Song Contest. The Semi-Finals and the Grand Final will both take place at St Jakobshalle in May.
The most recent hosting of the contest took place in Lausanne, Switzerland, back in 1989, with an earlier event held in Luganno during the 1950s.
In 2024, Nemo clinched Switzerland’s third victory – marking their first triumph since Celine Dion’s victory back in 1988.
In this year’s competition, Olly Alexander from the band Years & Years represented the United Kingdom, securing a position of 18th overall and earning 46 points (with no points coming from the audience).
2024’s Eurovision Song Contest marked a significant milestone for Ireland as Bambie Thug secured sixth place with an impressive 278 points for their song “Doomsday Blue”.
The 2025 Eurovision Song Contest will take place in Basel, Switzerland in May 2025.
