BBC reveals first look at The Split’s new spinoff ahead of show return
As a seasoned gamer of emotional rollercoasters disguised as drama series, I must say that the revelation of BBC’s The Split spinoff has me on cloud nine! Two years have passed since Hannah and Nathan’s marriage went kaput, and it seems the Defoe family is still serving up a heaping plate of relationship turmoil with a side of Mediterranean sunshine.
BBC has revealed the first look at The Split‘s new spinoff.
In this rephrased version: The upcoming two-part TV event on BBC One features Nicola Walker reprising her role as Hannah Stern, joined by the entire Defoe clan, preparing for a destination wedding that promises to unveil shocking family secrets.
Recently published pictures by the BBC illustrate the transformation in the lives of the Defoe family, two years after the separation of Hannah Defoe (Stephen Mangan) and her former spouse Nathan Stern.
In Barcelona, where our family gathers for a joyous union, I find myself at a crossroads. Love might be knocking on my door once more, amidst the tumultuous whirlwind of break-ups and family squabbles that seem straight out of a drama like “The Split.
It’s been verified by the BBC that some well-known characters from “The Split,” such as Annabel Scholey (as Nina), Fiona Button (as Rose), and Deborah Findlay (as Ruth), will make a comeback in the upcoming two episodes.
Among the actors reprising their roles are Ian McElhinney as Ronnie, Kobna Holdbrook-Smith as Glen, Elizabeth Roberts as Liv, and Alex Guersman as Gael. Joining this talented group is Toby Stephens, famously known for his role in “Percy Jackson and the Olympians,” who will portray the suave lawyer Archie Moore.
According to Series creator Abi Morgan, the resumption of The Split features: “A setting of harsh divorces and captivating reconciliations, as the Defoe family attends a wedding of their own, offering everything that viewers have come to cherish about The Split.
Experience a turbulent prenuptial agreement, unwelcome wedding gatecrashers, and daring marriage pop-ups – all elements of a rom-com turned sour in a chaotic, uproarious weekend that promises to shatter hearts, long after the last guest has departed.
Originally, the creators of “The Split” were developing a different spinoff series named “The Split Up,” focusing on a fresh family known as the Kishans. However, according to reports from September, the BBC has paused its progress on this project due to some editorial considerations.
Originally, “The Split” was broadcast from 2018 to 2022, a period in which it garnered several nominations for National Television Awards.
The Split: Barcelona will air on BBC One and the BBC iPlayer.
